As of Sunday, May 1, 2022 Joey Janela is officially done with All Elite Wrestling.
Janela has previously stated over the last few months that AEW had gone “radio silent” with him, and that he was not expecting to sign a new deal with the company.
He also had said in a previous interview with Denise Salcedo that he was not interesting in resigning with AEW. He also noted that he considers Tony Khan a friend and hung out with him in the early days of the company. He further went on to say he appreciates AEW, the experience, and is going to take everything he learned and bring it with him for the rest of his wrestling career.
In January 2019, it was revealed that Janela would be one of the first signees of AEW, having signed a three year deal with the company. He debuted for the company at their inaugural pay-per-view event Double or Nothing, where he competed in the Casino Battle Royale on the event’s pre-show.
Several other AEW contracts are set to expire in the coming weeks, so more departures are expected.
