New Senate Bill introduced in New York proposes review of regulation for pro wrestling in the state

A new Bill has been introduced by the New York state legislature that would require the State athletic commission to review the need for regulation of professional wrestling.

NY State Senate Bill S5953, which has yet to be voted on, would direct the State Athletic Commission to review the need for regulation and licensing of pro wrestling in New York.

The Bill was first introduced by Senator Tim Kennedy back on March 23. The bill proposes that the New York State Athletic Commission examine the regulation of professional wrestling in other states and consult with “professional wrestling participants, and other stakeholders and entities who may assist in identifying areas of concern regarding the safety of professional wrestlers and its spectators.”

The State Athletic Commission, per the bill would have to submit a report to the legislature detailing its findings by November 1, 2023. The act would take effect immediately and then expire in July 2024.
