Backstage notes on a report regarding Seth Rollins, his new movie role, World Title

There was a recent report making the rounds from @WKRDWrestling noting that WWE had hesitancy to put the new World Heavyweight Championship on Seth Rollins, due to his role in the latest “Captain America: New World Order” film, which caused him to not appear in person for the past two episode of Raw. Instead, WWE aired pre-taped segments with Rollins in sit-down interviews conducted by Corey Graves.

Soon after their report was published, WRKD then clarified by saying, that this is not an immediate fear over Rollins, but for the future, in the event he and his real-life wife Becky Lynch decide to pursue careers in Hollywood. They then said officials within WWE still do see Rollins as a top star in the company and on Raw, further saying nothing has changed.

In a report from Fightful Select pertaining to the story from @WKRDWrestling, WWE higher-ups forcefully denied the report regarding Rollins. Fightful Select further note WWE officials see mainstream gigs outside of WWE such as Rollins’ role in the new Captain America movie as a positive for the company, especially now that Endeavor will have majority ownership of WWE after the merger deal is done in the fourth quarter of this year.

Fightful Select notes that one higher-up within WWE provided them with the following statement:

“I’m not saying who is going to win this weekend, but the idea that this is anything but a positive is an unrealistic way of thinking. I can’t speak to how those in charge a year ago would have felt, but now it’s seen as a positive, especially with Endeavor aboard. It also wasn’t a surprise. Colby Lopez (Seth Rollins) is an exceptional talent and we expect these opportunities to come his way. We were made aware that the situation was happening, and he’s already done filming. We had planned out the sit-down interviews to make up for his absence and it’s full speed ahead.”

Fightful Select further stated that WWE had actually considered having Rollins go into WrestleMania 39 as champion before the company decided to split up the titles.

Seth Rollins and AJ Styles are set to square off this Saturday at Night of Champions, in the World Heavyweight Title Tournament Finals to crown a new champion. The winner will be exclusive to Raw. The show will take place from the Jeddah Superdome in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Night of Champions will stream live in the United States on Peacock and WWE Network Everywhere else, this Saturday beginning at 1:00 pm ET.
