Fightful Select has confirmed a report from Bryan Alvarez on the return of AJ Lee to WWE, marking her first match in over a decade.
Alvarez stated that Lee is set to team with her husband, CM Punk, to take on Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins at Wrestlepalooza on September 20, the first premium live event to air on ESPN’s new direct-to-consumer platform.
Fightful Select further noted that, per sources, many within the company were calling an announcement (or even the full-fledged return of Lee) a “foregone conclusion” for SmackDown on September 5 from the Allstate Arena near Chicago, Illinois.
The former WWE Divas Champion last competed for the company on March 30, 2015, teaming with Paige and Naomi in a six-woman tag the night after WrestleMania 31.
Lee later retired from the in-ring side of the business, working with Women of Wrestling as an executive producer and color commentator from 2021 to 2023.
Hints of her return to WWE come after Becky attacked Punk in the closing moments of a World Heavyweight Championship match featuring Rollins at Clash in Paris, and a confrontation between Lynch and Punk the following night on Raw.
