A botch on 12/16 NXT causes unplanned title change

A botched finish led to a title change to take place on Tuesday night’s NXT.

Thea Hail is the new Women’s North American Champion. Both F4WOnline and Fightful Select have confirmed the spot was not planned and only took place due to the botched spot.

The finish had Hail hit a springboard senton off the middle rope onto Blake Monroe, then go for a cover, with the referee making the three count, even though you can see Monroe get her shoulder up. After ‘shock’ by Hail and the crowd also confused, Monroe’s music played and then Hail’s music started up as she was announced the winner and the new champion.

According to Fightful Select, when the botch took place, an immediate scramble took place backstage and things within the show as plans were already in place for Hail not to defeat Monroe for the title. It was added that the title change also affected several creative plans that were set for the next couple of weeks. Furthermore, Fightful Select also indicates that steps have been now taken as early as Tuesday night to make the creative adjustments.

At the time of Fightful’s report, no one was blamed for the botch.

Monroe held the Women’s NXT North American Championship for 51-days prior to Tuesday night’s show.

The start of the botched finish begin at the 2:30 minute mark of the highlight video below:
