Lita says her last run in WWE ended, ‘weird”, isn’t ruling out a return to the ring

During a recent interview with the Toronto Sun, WWE Hall of Famer Lita spoke on a number of topics.

When discussing her last run with WWE in 2023, she said it ended ‘weird’ and she is not rule out a return to the ring.

“It was a little weird the way it ended. I had this really fun, celebratory match at WrestleMania, and then the next thing I know they’re like, ‘Oh, by the way, you’re just going to be laying on the ground and we don’t need you anymore.’ And I was like, ‘Oh, okay.’ It felt complete, and then it didn’t, just the way things kind of ended. Am I still satisfied with all I’ve accomplished, and even the stuff I’ve been able to do post full-time run? Absolutely. But yeah, I wouldn’t rule it out if the right opportunity came because I still feel really good, and there’s so much talent out there. It’s always fun to mix it up with the current roster.”

She also spoke on her popularity and how the higher-ups at that time in WWE told her ‘don’t go thinking you’re anything.’

“With the success I was able to have, I also kind of had the office breathing down my neck, being like, ‘Don’t go get the big head. Don’t go thinking you’re anything.’ So it kind of made me be like — even if I would get a larger reaction…I’d probably be like, ‘Well, you know, yeah, that took the whole team and that wasn’t just me.’ I was really kind of ingraining myself not to relish and cherish some of the opportunities that I had, and then when it was time to go into the Hall of Fame, I really got this perspective where I almost got to watch my career as a movie and be like, ‘Wow, that was some really cool stuff that I pulled off.’”

Lita’s final match with WWE took place at WrestleMania 39 in 2023. On April 10, 2023, Lita was scheduled to defend the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship on Raw against Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez. However, a backstage segment was shown where Lita was assaulted just prior to the start of the show. Trish Stratus then teamed up with Becky Lynch to defend the titles on her behalf. Morgan pinned Stratus with a roll-up to win the tag team titles. Stratus then attacked Lynch following the match. Then on the following episode of Raw, Stratus revealed herself to be Lita’s attacker, citing frustration with Lita appearing as Lynch’s sidekick and upset at her legacy being forgotten.

She and Lynch won WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles on the February 27, 2023 episode of Raw, having defeated Dakota Kai and IYO SKY of then Damage CTRL.

Lita’s last appearance on WWE programming was the November 14, 2023 episode of NXT, announcing the qualifiers for the Iron Survivor Matches at the Deadline PLE.

Lita was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2014. She retired in 2006. However since then she has wrestled on WWE programming, having defeated Heath Slater in 2012 on the 1000th episode of Raw, wrestled at Evolution 2018, was a participant in the 2018 and 2022 Royal Rumble events and part of the 2022 Elimination Chamber.
