Mistico, Okomura succesful in Japan

On NJPW’s big 02/15 Sumo Hall card CMLL World Welterweight Champion, Mistico, succesfully defended his title against fellow CMLL superstar, Mephisto, after forcing him to submit to the La Mistica. It was said to be a decent performance but Mistico injured his knee early on in the match and had to struggle through to the finish. Its unclear as to how serious the injury is and we will have to just wait and see. In the opener CMLL star, Shigeo Okomura, teamaed with Japanese legend, Koji Kanemoto, to defeat the team of Kazuchika Okada & Nobuo Yoshihashi. Click the link below of a nice picture of Mistico

and Mephisto before their bout:

Check out that crazy chain Mistico is rocking. Don’t tell me he isn’t making crazy paper in Mexico.

Here’s to hoping his knee will be fine. I did get a chance to see the Mistico vs. Mephisto match early on in the week (I posted it in the forum) and you could clearly see where Mistico injured his knee. Early on (I’m talking seconds into the match) Mistico did his nipup into an arm drag but landed akwardly when he nipped up to his feet and from then on out he limped and grabbed his knee. At points it was clear he was in alot of pain but still fought through the pain and put on a heck of a show considering the injury. He even hit all his variations of hurricanranas, a somersault plancha, and even a springboard plancha on Mephisto in the crowd. They did have one botch late in the match where the knee came into play. Mistico had the crowd in the palm of his hands the entire match but he didn’t benefit from a particularly strong performance from Mephisto. It just seemed as if Mephisto wanted to be anywhere but there and really looked weak here. Mistico needed for Mephisto to do some improvisation in this match because of the injury but he did little to none. The one dive that Memphisto did perform nearly snapped Mistico’s back in two. The way the ramp was set up was that it stopped about 10 feet away from the ring and dropped off. Mephisto performed his Asai Moonsault on Mistico and in the process he squashed Mistico in between the himself and the ramp. I’m a little worried about Mistico’s knee but I’m fairly sure it’s not a tear seeing how he was able to fight through it and hit his high spots. Also, hopefully Mistico is able to come back to Japan and show what he can do as they didn’t put on the match that they had wanted to due to the injury. I’m hearing there could possibly be a Tiger Mask vs. Mistico match for the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Championship in the future. If I’m not mistaken Juventud Guerrera was the last luchador to hold that belt.

Hector Garza Scheduled for INDY Show In El Paso, Texas

Local Texas and Mexican INDY promotion FELIX announced part of their card for their upcomming 02/15 show and Hector Garza is scheduled to appear. Now, I’m not sure what’s going on there because to my knowledge Garza still has 2 (maybe 3) more years on his ban from the United States. He is listed as teaming with Hijo del Marquez & Magno to face Rocky Santana, Black Fish, & Cinta de Oro in the Main Event. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

* NOTES *

– An insane spot occured in the opener where Aerostar climbed up the scaffolding that held the lights and dove off onto Billy Boy and Tito.

– X-Pac and Zorro fought each other to a double countout for the 2nd staight time. Konnan, Hart Foundation 2.0, Vampiro, & Black Abyss all got involved. These two will probably continue feuding into TripleMania.

– Chessman came to the ring for the semi-main in a neckbrace and on crutches but when Mesias turned around to face Konnan he attacked him. Said to be a wild brawl with the Legion getting involved.

– After the Main Event The Legion ran out and attacked the technicos. El Mesias came out to make the save but got beatdown too until Charly Manson made his big return for the save.

– Well, obviously Super Crazy hasnt signed with AAA since he was supposed to make his debut here teaming with Crazy Boy, but instead Gladiador teamed with him like usual. I’m guessing he will do the same on the 28th when Super Crazy is scheduled to team with Crazy Boy again.

– Arturo Rivera and Joaquin Roldan got into a fight last week so they have signed a hair vs. hair match where each man will choose a luchador to represent them. Rivera chose Konnan and Roldan has until next week to choose his.

TNA Signs Dark Angel

PWI broke this week that TNA had officially signed former CMLL star, Dark Angel (Sarah Stock). Dark Angel had been with CMLL since 2004 but hadn’t wrestled as much in recent months. She was born in Canada but saw all her success in Mexico with her biggest win come in a Mask vs. Hair Match with former tag team partner, Amapola. Stock is a very solid wrestler and she has the look (very pretty and was also a former body builder). She could be the knockout that TNA has been looking for since the departure of Gail Kim in 2008. I think the biggest thing coming out of this is what CMLL and TNA’s relationship will be from here on out. To my knowledge Dark Angel was still employed by CMLL so either TNA stole her from CMLL or CMLL agreed to allow her to go to TNA because she wasn’t doing much in CMLL lately (and she could also come back to CMLL at certain times). There have been rumors that the Machine Guns would return to Mexico to face Volador Jr. & La Sombra for either the Guns IWGP Jr. Titles or Volador & Sombra’s CMLL Tag Titles very soon. Either TNA’s relationship with CMLL is over or it is strengthening.

3 Minis & Halloween Officially Sign With Perros del Mal

At a press conference this week Perro Aguayo Jr. introduced PdM’s newest signings: Pequeno Halloween, Mr. Aguilita, & Pequeno Cosmico as well as Halloween. Pequeno Halloween, Mr. Aguilita, & Pequeno Cosmico are all leaving CMLL to join the new promotion and work on the INDY scene because they felt they weren’t being used properly in CMLL.

Rey Mysterio Jr. Puts on Show at No Way Out

I usually don’t speak on the WWE or even TNA in this column unless its news of a luchadore going to one of those promotions, but I have got to speak on Rey Mysterio’s performance at this past Sunday’s “No Way Out” pay-per-view. It was nothing short of amazing, only 1 month after competing for almost an hour in the Royal Rumble match he competes in a brutal Elimination Chamber for almost 40 minutes from start to finish and was by far the star of the match. He used several stunning and creative ways to break out his offense as well as damn near kill himself. The spots where he did the Seated Senton off the Chamber and then when Jericho catapulted him into the chain and he caught himself on it like Spiderman (RVD-2002 style) and climbed up to the very top of the chain and leaped off into a hurricanrana onto Jericho were incredible. My hat goes off to one of the greatest luchadores in Lucha Libre history. Those fans really wanted to erupt for Rey if he got the pin as was I. Maybe soon he’ll get a REAL World Title reign.

3) Damian666 & Villano IV def. Scorpio Jr. & Villano III

4) Blue Demon Jr. & El Hijo del Santo def. Dr. Wagner Jr. & Perro Aguayo Jr.

* NOTES *

– After their loss in the semi-main Scorpio Jr. & Villano agreed to a hair vs. hair match in two weeks.

– After the main event Perro offered Dr. Wagner a spot in Los Perros del Mal (the group) but he refused. Halloween then made his shocking appearence rejoining Los Perros and they beatdown Wagner setting up the big Main Event for next time: Los Perros del Mal (Perro Aguayo Jr., Halloween, & Damian666) vs. Dr. Wagner Jr., El Hijo del Santo, & Blue Demon Jr.! Now that match has some star power and it will be awesome to see Mexico’s Most Wanted together again.
