CMLL
Strong Man In Japan Again

This past weekend Strong Man yet again competed in Japan. This time he faced current reigning IWGP Heavyweight Champion Shinsuke Nakamura in a Non-Title Match. Nakamura got the pin in about 9 minutes. Also on the card currently 1/2 of the IWGP Tag Champs and occasional CMLL star, Tetsuya Naito, pinned New Japan ace, Hiroshi Tanahashi, in the Quarterfinals of the New Japan Cup in a huge upset!

* NOTES *
– All 3 Villanos brothers (including Ray Mendoza Jr. of course) came out to honor their father, Ray Mendoza Sr. before the 3rd match.
– The Relevos Suicidas was Mistico & Felino vs. Volador & Sombra obviously. Mistico pinned La Sombra in the 1st fall and then in the 2nd fall Volador Jr. pinned Felino setting up the Mask Match.
– La Sombra took the clean win earning him his 2nd Mask Match (and 3rd Lucha de Apuestas match overall). This is easily his biggest win in his young career. Felino finally drops his mask in his near 30 year career. The legendary star had won every single Mask or Hair Match he had been involved in before this one (he was 12-0 in Luchas de Apuestas Matches leading into this one). Felino’s real name was revealed to be Jorge Luis Casas Ruiz and he is 46 years old.

AAA

AAA Trashes CMLL

At last Friday’s AAA press conference Konnan and Dorian Roldan decided it was time to throw shots CMLL’s way. Konnan claims that Franco Colombo and Paco Alonso just push their favorites and hold the other guys down (how ironic is it that Konnan says this?!). They also say that CMLL is in the middle of a complete meltdown (laughable) and that they are tired of hearing about how much better CMLL is than AAA (well if it’s true it’s true). This came off as pretty unprofessional to me but then again it is Konnan.

Marco Corleone Leaves AAA
A little over a year after jumping ship from CMLL over to AAA Marco Corleone (Mark Jindrak for those that STILL don?t know) has officially left the AAA promotion. No word on whether or not Marco will remain in Mexico and possibly return to CMLL or wrestle on the INDY scene for awhile or if he will attempt another shot with the WWE or possibly go with TNA yet. Japan would be another obvious possibility for him so the guy definitely has options from here.

AAA Stars In Japan
This past weekend AAA stars Chessman & Ozz (of Dark Family) competed at All Japan’s PPV from Tokyo. Ozz and Chessman faced off against TNA star Kiyoshi and former IWRG Intercontinental Lightweight Champion Tetsuya Bushi. Bushi & Kiyoshi were able to pick up the win in a little over 7 minutes when Kiyoshi hit a Moonsault on Ozz. Afterward Bushi issued a challenge to Kaz Hayashi for the AJPW Jr. Heavyweight Championship. Also on the card Super Crazy was involved in his own tag match (more on that in the INDY section).

AAA 03/19 TV Taping Results
1) Extreme Tiger, Jack Evans, & Rocky Romero def. Rio Bravo II, Tito Santana II, & Tigre Cota

6) El Mesias, La Parka Jr., & Octagon def. Dr. Wagner Jr., Silver King, & Pimpinela Escarlata
* NOTES *
– Konnan and Dorian introduced the newest AAA signee, Heavy Metal (yet another blast from AAA’s past)! Metal wasn’t sure if he wanted to join The Legion or not so Konnan gave him until the end of the night to decide.
– La WagnerManioacos came out and Dr. Wagner congratulated Electroshock on winning the Title and then asked for the first shot at the belt. Electro refused and then quit the group (well that new found solidarity lasted a long time) and they got into a brawl.
– Super Fly had miscommunication with his buddies yet again (here we go again) in their match.
– Nicho & Joe Lider finally drop the Tag Titles. They were easily the longest reigning Tag Champs in AAA history (both in time and in title defenses). They have been the champions since September 14, 2008 and had successfully defended the belts 10 times before this. Taiji & Takeshi become the first non-Mexican duo to win the belts. They officially joined The Legion as well as a result of Konnan not liking La Hermandad helping Pimpinela Escarlata at Rey de Reyes.
– Heavy Metal came out in the Semi-Main Event and helped Ciber & The Clowns beat The Legion refusing to join the group.
– Pimpinela Escarlata was officialy announced as a La WagnerManiaco member. After the match Sabu made his return to AAA and attacked the tecnicos along with The Legion. L.A. Park also jumped La Parka Jr. during all of this.

7) Open the Twin Gate Titles: Shingo Takagi & Cyber Kong def. CIMA & Gamma (c) to win the titles!
8) Open the Dream Gate Title: YAMATO def. Naruki Doi (c) to win the title!
* NOTES *
– Shisa pinned both Genki & Mune to win in his first title defense.
– Mochi, Fujii, & Akebono defend their belts successfully for the 2nd time.
– Kong & Shingo win the tag titles for the first time together as a team in what was CIMA & Gamma’s first official title defense. Shingo has previously won the titles once before (with YAMATO) and Cyber Kong won it previously once with YAMATO.
– YAMATO surprisingly upsets Naruki Doi in what was Doi’s 9th title defense. YAMATO becomes the 11th champion in the belts history snapping the 449 day (a record) reign of Naruki Doi. Obviously this puts a damper on Dragon Gate USA’s planned Title for Title Match between Doi and Hulk for WrestleMania weekend.

This week it was officially announced that MTV would be launching a new series based on Lucha Libre in May as part of the re-launching of MTV2. Super Crazy Returns to Japan
This past weekend on the same PPV card that AAA stars Ozz & Chessman competed on, Super Crazy had his own tag team match. Crazy teamed up with Yasufumi Nakanoue to face Seiya Sanada & Hiroshi Yamato in the opening bout.
