Jushin Liger Wins CMLL Middleweight Title in Japan!
On 05/03 Jushin Thunder Liger unseated Negro Casas as the CMLL World Middleweight Champion defeating him in Fukuoka, Japan. This was actually Negro’s very first defense of the belt. Liger is the 16th champion in the titles nearly 20 year existence. This would lead you to believe that Liger is most likely headed back to Mexico pretty soon.

AAA Announces Huge Tag Match for Fan Fest
The Lucha Libre Fan Fest that is coming up at the end of the month just got a pretty big match set for it. AAA (alongside Super Luchas Magazine) has announced that La Hermandad Xtreme (Nicho el Millionario & Joe Lider) will be taking on the team of former ECW originals, Super Crazy & Sabu!
Abyss Coming to AAA
It was announced this week by AAA that current TNA superstar, Abyss, will be coming into AAA for the big TripleMania show in June.

6) Cibernetico, Heavy Metal, & La Parka Jr. fought El Zorro, Nicho el Millionario, & L.A. Park to a NO CONTEST
* NOTES *
– In the opener referee Hijo de Tirantes cheated for the rudos and after the match tecnico referee Piero challenged Hijo de Tirantes to a match at TripleMania. Each man will pick a 3-man to represent him. If Tirantes team loses then he gets his head shaved, if Piero’s team loses then he gets his head shaved.
– After the 3rd match Koslov & Daniels attacked Joe Lider (on behalf of the Legion who’s still pissed at La Hermandad).
– It looked like the Legion team was going to beat the clowns but ended up getting themselves DQ’d for getting a little too violent.
– L.A. Park came out and accepted La Parka Jr.’s challenge for a match at TripleMania, but still no stipulation has been set.
– The Main Event was bizarre with pretty much all the tecnicos and rudos coming out and getting in a big brawl. Konnan was at ringside for the rudos which pissed off Nicho because of what the Legion did to Lider earlier. Nicho even spit on Konnan at one point which brought out Alex Koslov who started to brawl with Nicho. Lider then came out to help Nicho which brought out the rest of the Legion who jumped on La Hermandad. The match was thrown out at this point and security was too busy trying to seperate La Parka Jr. & L.A. Park to worry about Ciber & Heavy Metal whooping up on rudo referee Hijo de Tirantes and El Zorro. Vampiro ran out and saved Zorro for some reason. Apparantely they’re buddies now.

Lucha Star from 70’s & 80’s Passes Away
This week (05/04/10) former Lucha Libre star, El Supremo, passed away due to a heart attack at the age of 59. Supremo was trained by the legendary Diablo Velasco and originally was the tag partner of Espectro Jr. where he gained his first big success. Supremo wrestled throughout the 1970’s, 80’s, and even into the 90’s. Supremo was at his peak in the 1980’s as a part of the CMLL promotion. Throughout his career Supremo won the Distrito Federal Welterweight Title, NWA World Welterweight Title, & National Welterweight Title as well as taking the masks of 3 luchadores (Robot R-2 in 1979, Lawrence de Arabia in 1980, and Guerrero Azteca in 1987). He dropped his own mask in 1992 in CMLL to Pierroth Jr.

Dos Caras Jr. Dons The Mask Again
This week Dos Caras Jr. handled his interviews for WWE on their current tour of Mexico while wearing his old Dos Caras Jr. mask (the old design) despite the fact that he has been wrestling without the mask in WWE under the Dos Caras name as of late. Dos told reporters he didn’t want to talk about taking the mask off so there was no clarification on whether he will go back to wearing the mask when WWE returns to the states or if he will take the mask back off. Dos still hasn’t debuted on TV yet.
Dos Caras masked again:
MTV2 Lucha Libre Show Update
PWInsider revealed some new details on the upcoming Lucha Libre TV show coming ot MTV2. First off, it won’t be starting this month like was previously stated. Second, AAA won’t be apart of the show anymore. Marco Corleone will be a major factor in the show/promotion which will begin taping shows in Las Vegas at the end of this month (05/29 and 05/30). Marco Corleone himself on the Luchablog stated that the official start date for the show would be June 19th.
CHIKARA Tag Team Travels to Japan
This week former CHIKARA Tag Team Champs, Osirian Portal (Ophidian & Amasis), traveled to Japan to compete for the Zero-1 promotion. On 05/05 Amasis & Ophidian made their debuts when they defeated Munenori Sawa & Shota Takanishi in a tag team bout. A few nights later on 05/08 the team will get a shot at the NWA International Lightweight Tag Team Titles when the tandem faces the champions: Ikuto Hidaka & Munenori Sawa (which should be an excellent match). Interestingly enough recently released from WWE, Sho Funaki, also made his return to Japan on the night that Amasis & Ophidian debuted in Japan when Funaki teamed with Ikuto Hidada and defeated Sandy Beach & Chad Aloha.

5) Distrito Federal Trios Title Tournament Finals: Avisman, Hijo del Diablo, & Gringo Loco def. Mascara Ano 2000, Mascara Ano 2000 Jr., & Hijo de Mascara Ano 2000 to win the titles!
* NOTES *
– Before the Main Event AAA star, Silver King, walked out and shook hands with the fans and then sat down in the front row to watch the match. When it came down to the 3rd fall where Mascara Ano 2000 Jr. and El Hijo del Diablo were going at it. Mascara Ano 2000 then snuck back into the ring and fouled Gringo allowing Jr. to get the pin. Silver King then jumped hte guardrail and told the referee what happened. So obviously using wrestling logic the referee believed him and reverses the decision giving Los Gringos the win. Los Oficials then ran out and had words with Silver King. King low blowed Oficial 911 and then claimed he would bring in his buddies (Electroshock & Ultimo Gladiador) next week to face Los Mascaras. The Oficials demanded to face the Black Family (boy that’s random). AAA has even recognized that this went down on their official Facebook page. So we have an ex-AAA stars invasion in CMLL and now a AAA invasion of IWRG (and possibly IWRG invasion of AAA next) going on right now.

* NOTES *
– Charly Manson is still undefeated in Luchas de Apuestas matches making him 7-0. X-Fly, on the other hand, has not been so lucky. He’s actually NEVER won one making him 0-14.
– Rudo miscommunication resulted in X-Fly & Halloween losing their hair. Halloween attempted to help out X-Fly in the first Hair vs. Hair match but accidentally hit X-Fly allowing Halloween to get the pin. The same happened when X-Fly attempted to help Halloween out in the Main Event.

6) El Hijo del Santo, Latin Lover, & Marco Corleone def. Blue Demon Jr., Perro Aguayo Jr., & Lizmark Jr.
* NOTES *
– This PPV is still scheduled for June 11th. I still haven’t gotten another e-mail about the PPV since Valiente Lucha Libre pulled out, but their website has all these matches confirmed for the PPV except the Main Event. Surprisingly the biggest match (star wise) isn’t listed so I don’t know if that means it won’t be on the PPV or they’re waiting for some reason. Also, Sabu has been billed as appearing on the card but he was nowhere to be found.
– After the Misterio/Groon vs. Nova/Oriental tag match Perro Aguayo Jr. came out and challenged Misterio to a fight. Los Perros del Mal eventually all ran out and helped Pero beat up Misterio and leave him laying.
– In the Hardcore 5-Way the mystery wrestler was former XPW Champion and hardcore wrestler, Supreme. Talk about a HORRIBLY disappointing mystery wrestler.
– TJP vs. Aguila was said to be the best match of the night which isn’t that surprising though I would imagine Turbo & Thunder were right there as well.
– Black Terry Jr. posted a great set of photos from the event (which shows the attendance to be pretty good) here:

MAY LUCHA MATCH SPOTLIGHT:
This month we’re going to go back to 1998 in the WWF (at the time) when WWF attempted to showcase the Light Heavyweights (which was very short lived) using such Japanese and Mexican talent as Taka Michinoku, El Pantera, the then masked Aguila (later known in WWF as Essa Rios and then later on as Mr. Aguila in AAA & CMLL), Super Loco (aka Super Crazy), and many more including at one time even bringing in big lucha stars like Blue Panther and Perro Aguayo. This is a battle between El Pantera (who still wrestles on the Mexican INDY scene primarily for IWRG) and the then WWF Light Heavyweight Champion Taka Michinoku. This time around I’m going ot include links to watch the match for you guys as well:

Part 2:
WWF Light Heavyweight Championship
Taka Michinoku (c) vs. El Pantera
WWF No Way Out 1998 (February 15, 1998)
Sunny (Tammy Lynn Sytch) is the special guest Ring Announcer while Brian Christopher (Brian Lawler) is on commentary with Jim Ross & Jerry Lawler. The storyline leading into this match was that the Raw before this PPV Aguila and Taka faced Christopher & Pantera in a tag match. In the match Christopher had pulled out some brass knuckles but Taka knocked them out of his hand. Pantera then grabbed them and stuck them in his mask. Pantera then dive off the top rope with a Flying Headbutt on Taka that got him the pin setting this match up for the belt. Pantera kicks the match off with some chops to Taka and then he whips him into the ropes. Taka slides underneath Pantera and then hits him with a nice spinning heel kick. Taka nails Pantera with chops and then whips him into the ropes and goes for a clothesline, but Pantera ducks it and then hit’s a gorgeous Spinning Armdrag that sends Taka through the ropes to the floor. Pantera fakes out a dive onto Taka but then when Taka turns around Pantera follows it up with a Somersault Plancha over the top onto Taka on the floor! Back in the ring Pantera hit’s a Single-leg Takedown on Taka and then runs the ropes and then counters a Tilt-A-Whirl Backbreaker by Taka into another arm drag. Pantera follows up with a gorgeous spinning head scissors takeover. Pantera charges at Taka but Taka ducks out of the way sending Pantera crashing through the ropes to the floor. While Taka is still standing on the apron (with his back to Pantera) Pantera climbs to the top rope and hits an incredible Reverse Hurricanrana off the top down to the floor! Pantera follows it up with an insane Running Tope through the top and middle ropes (while on the apron) onto Taka on the floor sending Taka into the guardrail (the move is called the Corner Tope Suicida in Mexico)! Winner & STILL Light Heavyweight Champ: Taka via pinfall (Michinoku Driver)
(This was an excellent match and one of my favorite Light Heavyweight Matches from the WWE ever. Pantera really pounded on Taka the whole match while Taka played the baby face great making his comeback and never giving up. Great high spots throughout the match along with Pantera’s insane submissions. Brian Lawler’s commentary was pretty entertaining with him and his dad acting up and J.R. egging them on. Lawler was great minus the very racist comment he made about Taka (referring to him as a ‘slant eye’). ****)
