CMLL Luchadora Semi-Retires

This past weekend on one of CMLL’s weekly shows luchadora, Hiroka, announced that she would be retiring for a few years so that she can start a family. Hiroka is married to Pequeno Damian666 (Demus 3:16 now). She has been wrestling since 2002 and is a former CMLL World Minis Champion and was trained in Japan by Shinobu Kandori and then in Mexico by Jose Luis Feliciano and El Hijo del Gladiador. She says that she plans on making a return eventually. Good luck to Hiroka and Damian in starting their family, hopefully she will be gracing a lucha ring once again soon.

Pequeno Damian666 Changes His Name
This week it was announced by CMLL that Lucha Mini Pequeno Damian666 would be officially changing his name to Demus 3:16, supposedly Damian666 owns the rights to the name and will no longer let him use it. Demus says that the name is an Arabian demon.

La Sombra In Japan
La Somrba’s tour of Japan continues. Sombra now has 4 points and is likely eliminated from possibly making it to the Semifinals (unless something major happens, like an injury). Sombra has wins over Gedo and Tiger Mask IV and losses to Kota Ibushi, Davey Richards, & KUSHIDA along with appearing (and losing) in 3 multi-man Tag Team Matches.

AAA

Silver King Changes his Name

This weekend AAA announced that Silver King is officially changing his name. He is changing to to Silver Cain. The reason is because under this NEW gimmick he can legally (by Lucha rules) wear his mask again and not have any problems with the Lucha Comission. I hate the name but they’re doing it.

AAA Video Game Update
Just a quick update on AAA’s upcoming video or at least the pre-order on the game. Right now if you pre-order the game (due out in August) you will receive a free Official AAA Lucha Mask. If you order online you will get a Dr. Wagner Jr. mask, but if you pre-order in store you can choose from Dr. Wagner Jr., Abismo Negro, Octagon, or La Parka Jr. (some stores may only have one or two of the masks though). The video game will be available on Playstation 3, X-Box 360, or Wii. The official cover still has yet to be revealed.

L.A. Park Punchout Video on ESPN
This week the already infamous video of L.A. Park punching out the video who decided to put his hands on Park, was shown during P.T.I. (Pardon The Interruption) on ESPN! It was played during their “Who’s Side Are You On?” segment where Michael Wilbon said he thought the fan was a plant (as in AAA put him there to get knocked out in an angle). Yeah, Wilbon isn’t very bright apparently. Tony Kornheiser said he didn’t blame Park for knocking the guy out. I wish I had video of it on ESPN but couldn’t find any online as of yet.

La Parka-Lucha Commission Drama
Coming off the heels of the big L.A. Park vs. La Parka Jr. showdown at TripleMania there continues to be controversy over the finish to the Main Event (to read the full results, see below). After outside interference from Perros del Mal, helping Park get the win, the Lucha Commission declared that they were overruling the outcome of the match and declaring it a No Contest. Later, at the post-show Press Conference, AAA said that L.A. Park was the official winner no matter what anyone else says. During the week the Lucha Commission issued a statement once again saying that the match has been ruled a No Contest citing actual rules from the Lucha Rulebook. This all pretty much seems to be, at least in my opinion, the Commission messing with AAA and just trying to get some controversy (as there is numerous Main Events with tainted finishes that they say nothing about, including TripleMania’s Main Event in the past). There logic is that the referee that started the match (Copetes Salazar) isn’t the one who counted the pinfall (which was Hijo de Tirantes, he came in after Salazar got knocked out). Most likely AAA will just continue to ignore them and go on with the angle as they had planned, but that may not be the case because Thursday AAA noted that the Commission has officially ruled the match a No Contest so L.A. Park will remain L.A. Park and La Parka Jr. will remain La Parka (Jr.) at this point. I’m so confused. The Lucha Commission is typically more of a pain in the a** than anything else.

L.A. Park’s Bottle Throwing Incident on Video
2 weeks in a row we get an awesome video of L.A. Park being, well, awesome. This is the bottle throwing incident that I mentioned last week where some fans were throwing bottles at L.A. Park and then Park decided to toss them right back at the fans. The incident starts at 0:19 seconds in the video:

Pics from TripleMania
I was going to just insert these into the notes of the results but I decided to just post them separately because there are so many great ones. Pictures are courtesy of various sites (Black Terry Jr., Estrellas del Ring, Gritamix.com, and AAA).

7) AAA Heavyweight Title: Dr. Wagner Jr. def. Electroshock (c) to win the title!
8) Name vs. Name: L.A. Park def. La Parka Jr. to win the rights to the La Parka name!
* NOTES *
– La Parkita & Mini Chessman were added to the Minis Title Match last minute. Mini Abismo Negro and La Parkita were injured during the match. Octagoncito wins the Minis Title for the first time, ending Mini Abismo Negro’s 6 month reign.
– For 30 days Cinthia Moreno, Fabi Apache, & Mari Apache will be the maids for Jennifer Blade, Rain, & Sexy Star.
– La Hermandad eliminated Aoki & Shiozaki first, then Beer Money eliminated La Hermandad, and finally Silver King & Gladiador beat Beer Money to win the titles. Afterward Junior Dinamitas (Hijo del Cien Caras & Mascara Ano 2000 Jr.) ran out and attacked King & Gladiador continuing the AAA vs. IWRG feud.
– The Seconds Hair Match was turned into a Cage Match for no apparent reason, just usual AAA booking. During the match the big spots were Hernandez’s big Plancha off the top of the cage and Chessman’s Moonsault off the cage onto Heavy Metal. It came down to just Heavy Metal and Chessman with Chessman getting the win and then the rudos shaving Piero’s head afterward.
– In the Extreme Rules Tag Match Konnan tried to throw powder into Cibernetico’s eyes but hit Vampiro instead. Cibernetico then Chokeslammed him for the pin. Koslov, Daniels, & Hernandez then attacked Cibernetico but Cibernetico along with La Hermandad chased them off.
– In the Cruiserwegiht match the champion, Tiger, was eliminated when a man dressed in Extreme Tiger’s mask ran out and distracted him. The man unmasked revealing he was Relampago! Evans beat Daniels to win the belt.
– Wagner got the clean win on Electroshock to regain the title after a Wagner Driver. El Mesias came out after the match to present Wagner with the belt (I then proceeded to beat my head against my desk because the thought of El Mesias vs. Wagner Pt. 500 makes me physically ill).
– In the Main Event in a bit of a shocking result L.A. Park wins back the rights to the La Parka name when he beats La Parka (Jr.). Park hit Park Jr. with a Martinete and then punched out Joaquin Roldan when he jumped in the ring to protest it, but Park ended up hitting Dorian as well. Dorian got up and nailed Park with a chair! Mexicos Most Wanted (Damian666 & Halloween) ran out and threw Dorian out of the ring and placed Park on top of Parka Jr. for the win! The rest of Perros del Mal (Perro Aguayo Jr., X-Fly, Black Warrior, Super Crazy, Hijo de L.A. Park, and Damian’s son) came out and celebrated with Park , and then AAA stars ran out to try and run off Perros del Mal. Perro Aguayo Jr. gets on the mic and claims that PdM is the best Lucha Libre promotion (did someone forget to tell CMLL?) and that lucha libre needs change and PdM is change. Park and Perros del Mal then declared war on AAA. After a rock band performed Maricela Pena got in the ring and announced that supposedly the Lucha Commission had annulled L.A. Park’s win declaring the match a NO CONTEST because of Perros del Mal’s interference. The fans were not happy about this at all. AAA then clarified at the post-show Press Conference that L.A. Park IS the winner of the match (apparently the Lucha Commission attempted to get involved and force AAA to call it a No Contest but they pretty much told them to go shove it). So Park owns the rights to the La Parka name now!

More Lucha Libre USA News
The color commentators for the new MTV2 Lucha Libre USA: Masked Warriors show (taped this past weekend) will be Gary Michael Cappetta and Nigel Sherrod. Sherrod is a former WWE developmental talent from Deep South Wrestling. Cappetta was a ring announcer for the WWF from 1974-1985 and later with AWA and WCW. More recently he worked as a backstage interviewer for Ring of Honor. He is bilingual so he at least speaks Spanish as well. According to PWInsider, Lucha Libre USA contacted Colt Cabana about doing Color Commentator, but the two sides couldn’t come to an agreement. A preview episode will premier on June 26th and the official debut of the show will be July 17th.

– Supposedly this is the first 3 shows. They are doing two title tournaments right off the bat. The Heavyweight Title is obvious, the Tag not so much. The teams were a regular sized wrestler teaming with a mini. I’m not sure if its going to be like that always or what. The Octagoncito is the original (not the one in AAA now, I know confusing).
– Charly Manson has changed his name (probably just for this promotion) to Charly Malice.
– Next taping is later on this month.

LUCHADORE SPOTLIGHT

EL PANTERA

El Pantera has been wrestling for over 20 years and has been one of the best wrestlers from the era of 1980’s that birthed such stars as Negro Casas, El Hijo del Santo, and many others. Despite that he isn’t one of the most well known anymore, but still to this day remains a great wrestler on the INDY scene. In the mid-80’s Pantera was trained by El Carnicerito, Pirata Moreno, Rafael Salamanca, & Raul Reyes. Pantera made his debut in 1985 under the El Pantera name and mask. Pantera took some time to get noticed but in late 1987 Pantera defeated Guerrero Samurai to win his first championship, the Mexican National Lightweight Championship. Pantera held that belt for almost a year. After dropping the belt the next year Pantera formed a group with Aguila Solitaria & the legendary Ciclon Ramirez known as Las Saetas del Ring (The Arrows of the Ring). The trio became highly successful even becoming triple champions when they won the Nuveo Leon State Trios Titles, Veracruz State Trios Titles, and the Distrito Federal Trios Titles. After dropping the belts Pantera chanced his persona, donning a new red, yellow, & blue mask and calling himself America as he joined the oldest wrestling promotion in the world, CMLL (EMLL at that time). In 1992 America defeated the legendary Fuerza Guerrera to win his first major title, the CMLL World Welterweight Title. After a long title reign he dropped the belt to El Felino and then returned to his El Pantera persona. Pantera regained the Welterweight Title holding the belt for nearly 2 years (defeating the likes of Felino 3 times, legendary Japanese star Great Sasuke, and Arkangel de la Muerte on the way). Pantera decided to leave CMLL and travel Japan among other places so CMLL stripped him of the belt. Pantera settled in the young IWRG and even became the first IWRG Intercontinental Middleweight Champion defeating Tony Rivera in the Tournament Finals. In 1997 Pantera joined the WWF in America as a part of the Light Heavyweight Division. His most notable feuds were with Taka Michinoku (which resulted in a memorable WWF Light Heavyweight Title match between the two at the 1998 No Way Out PPV) and Aguila (aka Essa Rios and Mr. Aguila). Pantera left the WWF in 1999 and returned to IWRG. By this time IWRG had a working agreement with CMLL which resulted in Pantera returning to CMLL as well. In 2001 Pantera defeated Japanese star, NOSAWA, to win the CMLL Welterweight Title yet again and then later once again won the IWRG Welterweight Title. After dropping both those belts Pantera joined a group known as La Corporacion (The Corporation) alongside Black Tiger III (Silver King), Pentagon Black, Cerebro Negro, Dr. Cerebro, Scorpio Jr., & Veneno. He, Pentagon Black, and Black Tiger III defeated Los Villanos in a Tournament Finals to win the IWRG Intercontinental Trios Titles. After dropping the belts Pantera left La Corporacion and formed a team with El Felino and won the IWRG Intercontinental Tag Team Titles defeating the champions, Dr. Cerebro & Cerebro Negro (Pantera’s former partners in La Corporacion). In July of 2006 Pantera faced Misterioso II in Arena Mexican in a Mask vs. Mask Match where Misterioso II won unmasking the longtime luchadore. Pantera had won all 10 of his previous Mask/Hair Matches and has never won one since. Pantera bounced back by winning the IWRG Middleweight Title when he beat Veneno for the belt. When CMLL and IWRG’s working agreement ended in 2007 Pantera and Felino ended their partnership after losing the Tag Titles to Los Juniors Capos (Hijo del Cien Caras & Hijo de Mascara Ano 2000) on May 31, 2007. Pantera would once again don the Pantera mask in 2008 when he joined the CHIKARA promotion in America for a short time. During that time he along with Lince Dorado and Incognito even won the 2008 CHIKARA King of the Trios Tournament defeating Eddie Kingston, Ruckus, and Joker in the Finals. Pantera continues to wrestle in IWRG along with other INDY promotions in Mexico as well as train young wrestlers including his son Hijo del Pantera (who made his debut in IWRG this year) and his nephew: AAA star, Ultimo Gladiador. Pantera made not be the most well known star in Mexico but his impact has been felt all across the world.
