Mr. Niebla Set to Make His Return
At a press conference this week CMLL announced that Mr. Niebla would be making his return from a knee injury (that they claim he was rehabbing in the U.S.) in the next couple of weeks. There has been rumors that he’d been suspended him for some reason but CMLL swears that he was simply injured. No date was set for his return but it’s expected to be either next week or the week after.
La Sombra In Japan
This week CMLL star La Sombra finished up his tour of New Japan. Sombra ending up with only 4 wins (including one tag team match) on his tour but he did end up beating both Tiger Mask IV and Jushin Thunder Liger (easily the two biggest Japanese names in Mexico involved in the tournament) and impressed everyone (New Japan and the fans). In the match against Liger, Somrba won by countout. Liger was out on the floor and Sombra went to the apron and then did a springboard off the top into an insane Imploding 450-Splash (kind of a reverse springboard 450 that Aeorstar likes to do) onto Liger on the floor. I don’t remember seeing Sombra hit this in the past (he may have and I just don’t remember) but this got a pretty big reaction and Liger sold it like he was near dead. The video of the match is below underneath the result of the Sombra/Liger match. It’s a pretty short match and the big spot happens around the 4 minute mark. Irish star Prince Devitt ended up winning the tournament, pinning youngster Kota Ibushi (both of whom Sombra lost to in exciting bouts during the tournament) in the Finals.

Mistico had Volador pinned but Tirantes (the rudo referee) refused to make the pin. Mr. Aguila then distracted Mistico (his teammate in the match) allowing Volador to hit Mistico with the La Mastica. Tirantes then called for the bell signaling that Mistico had tapped despite that he never did. After the match Mr. Aguila jumped Mistico as well.

AAA at E3
This week AAA invaded the E3 Video Game Convention in L.A. to promote their upcoming video game “Heroes del Ring: AAA Lucha Libre.” They held wrestling matches throughout the convention featuring the likes of the lucha minis, Psycho Clowns, luchadoras, and a big Tag Team Match to decide the star that will grace the cover of the game. Though, I’m not sure on the results of each days matches (does it really matter though), the big one was a tag match pitting Dr. Wagner Jr. & Silver King against La Parka Jr. & El Elegido with the man who gets the winning fall becoming the cover man of the game. Wagner got the win and it will be his face (or mask) that will be on the official cover of the game. A few videos have made their way to Youtube (and it was said that the big tag match would be taped so I’m guessing it will too soon).
– Psycho Circus in action against Air Foce:
– Mini Abismo Negro & Mini Charly Manson vs. Mascarita Sagrada & Octagoncito (great quality):
– And the Press Conference/Weigh In for the big Tag Match which features Silver Kain, El Elegido, and La Parka Jr. weighing in with a special promo video from Wagner as well (he was still in Mexico for the TV Taping):

5) AAA Parejas Increibles Tag Team Titles Fatal 4-Way Elimination: Cibernetico & Konnan def. Electroshock & Super Fly, Dr. Wagner Jr. & Silver Kain, and L.A. Park & La Parka Jr. to win the new titles!
* NOTES *
– Every match was Relevos Increibles. That second match actually looks really good.
– In the Main Event Super Fly & Electro were eliminated first and then Parka Jr. eliminated Wagner & Kain by pinning Kain. Finally, La Parka Jr. and L.A. Park turned on each other with La Parka Jr. fouling Park and then Ciber winning the belts. Konnan didn’t even do anything in the match, Alex Koslov came out and worked for Konnan in his place. Does it really matter, though? These belts likely won’t even appear on TV once.
AAA 06/16 TV Taping Results

* NOTES *
– During the show Wagner came out and said he would defend his belt against anyone. Vampiro then came out and said that years ago Wagner injured his knee (who knows) and he wants revenge. They then brawled in the ring.
– In the Semi-Main Electro go the pin on Wagner. After the match Vampiro ran out and jumped Wagner while Electroshock watched.
– In the Main Event Park Powerbombed Joe Lider onto some chairs to get the pin.

Dhani Jones Tackles Lucha Libre
Monday the episode of NFL Linebacker, Dhani Jones’, show “Dhani Tackles The Globe” which covered Lucha Libre aired (I would have given you guys a heads up last week had I known before Friday that it was going down this week). Dhani gave a little background on Mexico City and then some history on Lucha Libre. Some nice clips of IWRG are shown before he meets the man who will be his ‘mentor’ while in Mexico: Ignacio “Nacho” Vargas. Nacho makes and sells silver pendants of Lucha Libre masks (the ones that I recognized were El Santo, Rey Mysterio Jr., Mil Mascaras, and I think Fuerza Guerrera). More clips IWRG are shown and the impact that Lucha has had on Mexico is shown (with clips of movies, paintings on walls of luchadores, merchandise, etc.). Nacho speaks on becoming a fan of Lucha Libre as a child and then the mask is put over (Dhani even mentions that the word ‘persona’ means the mask worn by an actor which I had no idea). They put great emphasis on the Lucha Libre mask. Dhani then visits an IWRG event with Nacho and a friend of his and a former Luchadora that went by the name The Empress. During a match between Heros and Alan Extreme Dhani seems to be extremely impressed by the high flying moves and Extreme even dives out onto Heros sending both of them crashing into Dhani and his friends in the front row. More clips of Dhani seeming to get into the action as it goes on are shown. Dhani mentions how losing a mask is seen as the biggest form of humiliation in lucha and then talks about how Lucha brings in people of walks of life together to watch. Shots of a very bloody Black Terry are shown as well. Empress gets into it with Mascara Ano 2000 Jr. at ringside and throws her beer on Mascara. Mascara then grabs her which causes Dhani to shove him away and then jump the guardrail (yes this is all a work). Dhani gets in Mascara’s face before security breaks him up and then they break away and start to scrap some. Mascara Ano 2000 Jr. gets on the microphone and says (in Spanish, with English subtitles for us to follow along) that Dhani may be a great American Football player but in Mexico they respect Lucha Libre so Dhani challenges Mascara to a match the next week which Mascara accepts. Dhani says that this is what he came for before questioning if he bit off a little more than he can chew. After the break Dhani Jones and Mascara Ano 2000 Jr. pose for pictures at the press conference announcing the match formally to hype up the event. Mascara says that Dhani will remember this fight for the rest of his life. The legendary Black Terry will be the one who trains Dhani for this match. Black Terry talks about how it takes usually 3 or 4 years to become a great fighter but he will teach Dhani the basics. He first teaches Dhani tumbling before moving into basic grappling. When some luchadores do a demonstration for Dhani he seems to be blown away and nervous. Dhani moves onto Suplexes and then learning how to properly take one (which gets a “OH SH*T” when he hits the mat). Dhani visits a few old Mexican ruins before getting back to the training. They teach him how to run the ropes, perform leapfrogs, dropdowns, etc. before questioning if he’s rehearsing or training or if he’s going to be a wrestler or an actor. Black Terry explains to him he has to be prepared for everything and then begins teaching him some submission moves and some takedowns. Dhani performs his first successful sequence of moves and gets an applause from Terry (it still looked sloppy but not bad for a guy that’s been training for just a few days). Dhani goes to a local bar where Dhani cant even escape lucha in a bar as one of the Liquor’s is called “Enmascardo” and has the picture of a masked luchadore on the label. Dhani then attends a bullfight and even tries it (with a calf). Back to the lucha Dhani visits a mask shop and then asks a fortune teller to predict his future as a luchadore (she tells him that after his fight his life will change cause it will make him a better person). The IWRG promoter comes to watch Dhani train where he learns to do a Dropkick for the first time. Dhani demonstrates what he’s learned to the promoter who likes what he saw. They show Dhani getting ready for the match, getting advice, and talking to other luchdadores before the match. Dhani is completely decked out in ring gear (tights, boots, even a mask and entrance cape). Mascara Ano 2000 Jr. plays up to the fans wearing Mexico’s colors. Dhani refers to himself as “Solid Gold” and throws ‘gold’ coins to the crowd. He’s playing this up really well and he says he wants everybody to see his face so he takes off the mask before the match (in actuality I believe he wanted to wear the mask but the Lucha Commission stopped him for some reason). Dhani actually hits Mascara with a perfect Suplex and even a Fireman’s Carry Slam and even takes some bumps (including a DVD). Mascara even dives over the top with a Plancha onto Dhani on the floor! Dhani answers Mascara with some kicks and tossing him into the guardrail and ring post. Dhani dives off the top with a Cross Body (kind of) and then puts Mascara in a Armbar. Mascara comes back on Dhani and punishes him with a dropkick that knocks the referee down as well. Dhani low blows Mascara while the referee is down and then gets the pin! The referee then reverses the decision and DQ’s Dhani as the show comes to an end. All in all I think it was a pretty solid show. It painted a pretty positive light on lucha and gave IWRG a nice rub in the process, and Dhani played up to the legacy of the sport and didn’t try to make jokes about wrestling. Aside from the non-lucha stuff during the show, it gave a great behind the scenes look at Lucha Libre. I would definitely urge everybody to take a look at the show.
PWR Premiers Debut Web Show
This week Pro Wrestling Revolution debuted the Pilot Episode of their new Web Show “Uprising.” The show will feature different shows held at PWR shows held during the year. The Pilot Episode is an hour long show and is hosted by Nic Aragon. It features a Handicap Match pitting CMLL’s Strong Man against the team of the Polyester Express (Matt Carlos & Dave Dutra) from February 21st of last year; a Trios Match pitting the team of Vaquero Fantasma, Tito Aquino, and Rayman (formerly Hijo de Rayo Jalisco Jr.) against El Amante, Ulysses, and Hijo de Rey Misterio; and finally Blue Demon J. one-on-one with Oliver John for John’s PWR Heavyweight Title. The opening Handicap Match was really just a showcase of Strong Man’s incredible strength. The air he got on the Chokeslam on Carlos was crazy. Not a good match but a good introduction to the huge Strong Man. The Trios Match was a fun lucha match with some great wrestling and is a great match to introduce unfamiliar fans with the stars. Hijo de Rey Misterio was easily the MVP of the match. The finish came when Misterio hit a One-Man Spanish Fly on Tito. The Demon-John match was their first match against each other in that feud that lasted all of last year. Demon was still the NWA World Champion at this time. It’s an entertaining match for the most part, though I’ve never been impressed with John. Putting these two against each other in the Main Event of this first show was obvious though. All in all I think this is one of the better wrestling-related web shows out there and a great way for PWR to reach new fans to come out to their shows. The webisode is below:
