Mistico/WWE Rumors Start Up Again

This week’s Wrestling Observer reported that Mistico is once again interested in going to the WWE. They even confirmed that Mistico had a tryout match with the ‘E’ a few years ago in San Jose. This rumor pops a few times a year and I believe this is the 2nd time this year. Nothing has materialized but who knows what could happen. Dos Caras talked about the WWE and was rumored to be talking to the WWE for a long time and then when we all figured it was just talk he all of a sudden actually signed with them.

Guerrero Maya Jr. Contracts Hepatitis
CMLL revealed that young star Guerrero Maya Jr. has contracted a type of Hepatitis. They didn’t reveal what type of Hepatitis he had or how he contracted, but they did announce he will be out indefinitely. Some forms are obviously curable. He was originally scheduled to take place in the Reyes del Aire Tournament but has been replaced by Molotov.

AAA

Hernandez Back In The States

TNA star and AAA star (for the past year) Hernandez revealed last week via his Twitter page that he had finished up his tour of AAA and was back in the U.S. now. Rumors on the internet are claiming that he has agreed to return to TNA and they want to use him as a top star for 2011.

El Zorro/TNA Talks
After the initial talks of Zorro coming into TNA stalled out because supposedly the man who books AAA stars in America wanted money for Zorro coming to TNA, Zorro (and AAA) are said to be back in talks with TNA about coming into the company in 2011. Zorro is currently the AAA Heavyweight Champion.

* NOTES *
– This is the final Dragon Gate event of 2010.
– Kzy was injured in the Dark Match.
– Brodie Lee ran out after the No DQ Match and nailed both Gamma & K-Ness with Big Boots. CIMA then came out and introduced Lee as a new member of Warriors to the fan.
– Ricochet caps off his successful tour of Japan by capturing gold with his Warriors buddies. Ricochet was said to have impressed many during his tour.
– The group of masked men that have been harassing Yoshino came out after the Main Event and attacked him again. There were 6 men with masks this time. To me this smells like a Dragon Gate USA invasion of Japan.

* NOTES *
– It’s really cool to see every one of El Hijo de Cien Caras’ family members who are active luchadores on this show. L.A. Park (brother), Super Parka (uncle), Volador Jr. (cousin), and Hijo de L.A. Park (nephew) all competed. Either CMLL did the right thing and allowed Volador to wrestle on this show despite AAA stars being involved or Volador went behind their back and did it anyway.
– Volador stood across the ring from his cousin Hijo de L.A. Park for the first time. Hijo de L.A. Park also took his first mask as he pinned Imagen in the Main Event.

<2010 VIVA LA RAZA LUCHA LIBRE AWARDS

– LUCHADOR OF THE YEAR: La Sombra (CMLL)

No one in Lucha Libre had a bigger year in 2010 than CMLL’s incredible high flyer, La Sombra. In 2010 Sombra took the masks of two legends: Felino (in March) and Olimpico (in September) and won another championship to add to his resume. He and his buddies La Mascara & Mascara Dorada won the CMLL World Trios Championships back in May and have since defended the belts successfully 4 times. Sombra and his longtime partner, Volador Jr., lost their CMLL World Tag Team Titles in July after holding them for over a year and a half (and 8 successful defenses). Volador turned rudo and turned on his buddy starting a great fued between the two which is still on-going and could potentially lead to a huge Mask vs. Mask in the future between two of the top young stars in Lucha. Also, in 2010 Sombra made his debut in Japan with a very successful tour in the Best of Super Juniors where he got a win over the legendary Jushin Thunder Liger. He then returned with his partner, Mascara Dorada, and the two were very successful in the Super J Tag League. His 2010 has been filled with countless excellent matches including the Match of the Year (in my opinion). As hard as it is to believe, Sombra could very well have an even bigger 2011.

– TAG TEAM OF THE YEAR: Texano Jr. & El Terrible (CMLL)
Texano Jr. & El Terrible have spent the last few years on what seemed to be the cusp of stardom and it seems as if 2010 was their year to finally break through that wall. The two officially joined Averno’s Los Hijos del Averno group and spent the majority of 2010 in the Semi-Main and Main Event scene. They took their great 2009 feud with the Japanese team No Limit over to Japan and made their debuts over there. The duo returned later this year as part of the G1 Tag League where they were extremely successful ending up getting several nice wins over teams like Jushin Liger & Togi Makabe and even their old rivals No Limit. The duo has been Occidente Tag Team Champions since 2008 and Texano Jr. has been the NWA World Light Heavyweight Champion since April of 2009. It’s only a matter of time before this duo finally wins the CMLL World Tag Team Championships.

– LUCHADORA OF THE YEAR: FABI APACHE (AAA)
Year in and year our Fabi Apache continues to put on strong performances each and every month in AAA against many different types of wrestlers (American, Japanese, Mexican, etc.). Fabi and Pimpinela Escarlata won the AAA Mixed Tag Team Titles from Alex Koslov & Christina Von Eerie at “Heroes Inmortales IV.” This was Fabi’s 3rd reign with the belt with a 3rd champion. Fabi’s longtime feud with Sexy Star continues today.

– FEUD OF THE YEAR: La Parka Jr. vs. L.A. Park (AAA)
This feud was 15 years in the making and there was legit bad blood between the two which resulted in heated encounters leading up to their showdown at TripleMania where the two men literally beat the hell out of each other. Not much was settled in the match and the two continue to face each other now and while talk of a Mask vs. Mask Match has died down considerably fans still hope for this final showdown between the two hated rivals.

– MATCH OF THE YEAR: Mexican National Light Heavyweight Title – Volador Jr. (c) vs. La Sombra (CMLL, 09/05/10)
Volador Jr. and La Sombra were once friends and a great tag team and group (along with Mistico) but that all came to an end when Volador turned to the rudo side and turned on his longtime partner. This resulted in some great matches between the two ranging from tag team matches, trios matches, and single matches like this one. Both guys pulled out all the stops to beat each other including an insane Spinning Headscissors Piledriver by Volador. In the end Volador used his new found rudo ways to get a cheap win over his buddy. This feud is far from over and it’s crazy to imagine that these two could possibly surpass this match in the future.

– SHOW OF THE YEAR: AAA TripleMania XVIII
AAA typically goes all out for TripleMania and this year was no exception. Headlined by the Parka vs. Parka showdown it also featured a crazy Minis TLC Match, a Fatal 4-Way Tag Team Match consisting of teams representing Mexico, the United States, and Japan; an intense Steel Cage Match, a surprisingly technical match between Electroshock & Dr. Wagner Jr., and a great high flying Cruiserweight Title match.

– CHAMPION OF THE YEAR: ULTIMO GUERRERO (CMLL WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION)
Few wrestlers in the world today have had a reign like Guerrero’s CMLL World Title reign in recent memory. Guerrero won the title way back in December 2009 from the current WWE star Alberto del Rio (then Dos Caras Jr.) and he has defended it successfully 12 times including 4 this year. Guerrero has amassed title defenses over Hector Garza, Shocker (twice), and La Mascara this year.

– STORYLINE OF THE YEAR: Los Invasors invasion of CMLL
A storyline that started off as something many people saw as a storyline that would die soon but quickly spiraled into a major angle in CMLL. In the spring Psicosis II, El Alebrije, Histeria II, and Monsther stunned fans as they invaded CMLL attacking their wrestlers. Eventually other former AAA stars like Mr. Aguila, Olimpico, El Oriental, and Charly Manson would join the group and the invasion. Also legends like Universo 2000, Mascara Ano 2000, & Rayo de Jalisco Jr. got in on the action throughout and Hector Garza also joined the group to lead it. It’s led to Psicosis II jumpstarting his career again led by a crazy match between himself and Mistico. Many felt that the group would fade out in a matter of months or even weeks but the core members continue to stick around and keep the angle going. One thing is for sure, some great matches have been made from this feud and it’s given guys like Mr. Aguila, Charly Manson (who eventually jumped back to AAA), and Psicosis II new life in their once fading careers.

– BREAKTHROUGH LUCHADOR OF THE YEAR: La Sombra (CMLL)
For the same reasons that I gave him Luchador of the Year, are the reasons he gets Breakthrough of the Year. He went from being a Semi-Main Eventer on the cusp of stardom back in 2009 to a legit Main Eventer and a top star in CMLL this year and there is no ceiling for this youngsters rise.

– DISSAPOINTMENT OF THE YEAR: Perro Aguayo Jr. (AAA/INDY)
From his mis-management of the Perros del Mal INDY promotion to continuous DQs and No Contests in those PdM shows to his refusal to do what we all know he can do: WRESTLE. When he does finally get in the ring he continues to always want to bring in Hardcore aspects into the matches. If these things weren’t bad enough Perrito has showed up to more than one AAA event drunk or high stumbling to the ring and slurring his words when he speaks. This should have been a return to stardom for Perro but it’s turned out to be a major fail for both he and the company that brought him in (AAA).

– MOMENT OF THE YEAR: L.A. Park knocks fan out
Earlier this year a fan made the cardinal mistake, he touched a wrestler and he got his ass knocked out in the process. At a AAA event a fan felt the need to grab L.A. Park’s mask and start pulling on it. So Park felt the need to turn around and punch said man in the face! This was an awesome sight as I have no sympathy for idiot fans that want to put their hands on wrestlers. 99% of the time it ends bad for the idiot (usually drunk) fan.
