Hijo del Fantasma Rumor
Last weeks Wrestling Observer claims that the reason Hijo del Fantasma has been de-pushed in the last week is because he can speak English. No really, I’m being serious. Fantasma is seen as one of the wrestlers in Mexico that could succeed in an U.S. Promotion because he can speak English and CMLL supposedly fears that he will leave to go to WWE like Mistico did and they don’t want it to be seen as them losing another top star. If this is true it’s the most insanely stupid thing I think that I’ve ever heard. Hopefully it’s just another idiotic rumor.
Guerrero vs. Goto
I had a chance to watch Ultimo Guerrero and Hirooki Goto’s CMLL Heavyweight Title Match (04/29) this week and WOW! Really great match and I’m going to review it next week. To watch the match start at 9 minutes in the first video:

TNA declares war on AAA
AAA posted a video on their Facebook page that was “sent from TNA” which features Jeff Jarrett declaring “war” on AAA and saying that TNA is going to invade AAA. He specifically name drops Konnan and says that they have never seen eye to eye but he’s “made a deal with the devil” suggesting that TNA will align with La Sociedad/La Legion Konnan’s rudo/heel stable in AAA. Mr. Anderson, Beer Money, AJ Styles, Matt Hardy, Bully Ray, and Mick Foley all make appearances in the video and say they are coming to AAA to wage war on the promotion. Jarrett, Styles, Beer Money, and Anderson have all wrestled for AAA in the past and Beer Money wrestled on TripleMania last year. Anderson wrestled at last years Rey de Reyes. Jarrett did 2 more videos challenging AAA and even name dropped Sting in one video. I don’t know that Sting has EVER wrestled in Mexico and most certainly not for AAA. Also, this week Dorian Roldan announced that Mickie James was coming to TripleMania.

Tinieblas Retiring
This week Tinieblas Sr. announced that he was officially “retiring” on 05/21 in his final match. Previously he had talked about a Retirement Tour and has talked about retiring several times. I guess we’ll see if he’s being for real as he claims he is this time.
CHIKARA Announces More Tournament Info, Amasis Injured
This week CHIKARA announced more info about the upcoming “12 Large: Summit” Tournament to crown the first CHIKARA Champion. The tournament begins on May 21st and each match will have a 60-minute time limit. Every tournament win will be worth 2 points, a time limit draw or no contest gives each wrestler 1 point, and a loss gets no points. The wrestler with the most points from Black A will meet the wrestler with the most points in Block B will meet in the Finals on November 13th! So that means this Tournament will last about 6 months! Also, Osirian Portal member Amasis (who was scheduled to compete in the Tournament) has suffered severe “neck and spine” injuries that CHIKARA says is from a “non-wrestling accident.” He is out of the tournament and it is unknown just how serious these injuries are at this time. Prayers go out to Amasis and his family. An announcement on who will replace Amasis in the Tournament should be soon.
TNA Debuts Lucha Character
This past week TNA Wrestling debuted a new Lucha Libre character Sangriento that is billed from Tijuana, Mexico. In actuality it is Amazing Red under a mask but they are going to be using this new character as a Lucha star. Supposedly TNA has been wanting to create their own Lucha Libre style character for awhile. He really didn’t use a lot of the moves that he uses as Amazing Red and rather than using Red’s usual finishes of the Code Red or Infrared he instead used a unique Springboard No-Look Diamond Cutter. Also, I doubt that TNA declaring “war” on AAA the same week that this new character debuts is a coincidence. He faced and defeated Suicide again last night as well. Pics and video of Sangriento from both matches are below (courtesy of TNA Wrestling):
Juventud Guerrera Makes Music Video Appearence
Lucha legend Juventud Guerrera makes an appearance in Chicano Rapper Mano’s new music video “Juicy Love” in which Juventud actually has a guest verse. I heard that Juvy actually has his own rap album out and if anybody has any idea how to get their hands on it email me (joshboutwell@hotmail.com). The video is below:
Dead Elvi’s Lucha Libre Song
This week the rock group Dead Elvi released a video for their song “Lucha Libre” which is a tribute to Lucha and actually features video clips of El Santo in both the ring and from his movies. I’ve never heard the band before and it’s not my kind of music but the use of Santo is pretty cool. The video is below:
Toryumon Mexico 05/14 “DragonMania VI” Arena Mexico Lineup
1) Marcela & Shuri vs. La Comandante & Mima Shimoda
2) Solar I & Hijo del Solar vs. Negro Navarro & Trauma I
3) Hijo del Fantasma, Yoshihiro Tajiri, & TBA vs. Ultimo Guerrero, Atlantis, & Sangre Azteca
4) Mask vs. Mask: Ultimo Dragon vs. Black Tiger V
* NOTES *
– Black Tiger and Dragon have been feuding for about a year. I believe Tiger Mask IV actually took his mask last year in Japan (he’s still wearing it in Toryumon) and he was the first Black Tiger to NOT be a foreigner. Unless it’s someone else the Black Tiger V in New Japan was Tatsuhito Takaiwa, a former IWGP Jr. Heavyweight and GHC Jr. Heavyweight Champion. From the very first Black Tiger back in the 80’s, it had always been a foreigner under the mask to battle the Japanese Black Tiger. The other Black Tigers:
– Black Tiger I: Mark Rocco (UK)
– Black Tiger II: Eddie Guerrero (Mexico)
– Black Tiger III: Silver King (Mexico)
– Black Tiger IV: Rocky Romero (America)
