Huge Mask vs. Mask Match Set in CMLL, Title Update
This week CMLL announced that Averno will face La Mascara in a big Mask vs. Mask Match on 06/17! This is easily the biggest Mask Match CMLL has done since Guerrero/Villano. Averno losing his mask to anyone other than Mistico just seems wrong, but Mascara is so young it’s hard to believe that they would take his mask off already. This is definitely one that will be hard to pick. They’re attempting to rival AAA’s big Mask vs. Hair Match between Mesias & L.A. Park which will take place the next night. CMLL also announced that Shocker has been stripped of the CMLL Historic Light Heavyweight Title. They claimed it was due to lack of defenses (if that were the case there would be many more titles stripped) but it’s really because Shocker’s not going to be able to return from his knee injury to take part in the Universal Champion Tournament and they need another Champion for it.

This week Delta & Polvora joined Angel de Oro & Fuego into the Semifinals of the Tournament. The Semifinals will take place on 05/20 with the winners of each match facing off in the finals on 05/27.

Mascara Dorada in Super Juniors
CMLL’s Mascara Dorada started his quest to win the Super Juniors Tournament in New Japan this week by getting a victory over his rival Jushin Liger via countout (he won the same way against Liger last year in Japan). Dorada’s next match will be against the legendary Taka Michinoku this weekend.

CMLL Super Lightweight Title Tournament Info
This week CMLL confirmed that the CMLL Super Lightweight Championship Tournament will take place in two Blocks (Block A & Block B) with each Block being a Cibernetico (Elimination) Match. The winner of each block will face in the finals to crown the new champion. The belt has been vacant since Mascara Dorada relinquished it on April 7th when he announced that he was moving up in weight class (after the fact that he had already won two Welterweight Titles). Whoever wins it will be only the 12th champion in the belts history joining Masato Yakushiji (former ECW wrestler), Virus, Ricky Marvin, Rocky Romero, Tommy Williams, and of course Mascara Dorada. Dorada was the only man to successful defend the belt more than once (he did it 5 times). In Block A Guerrero Maya Jr. beat Palacio Negro, Rey Cometa, Hijo del Signo, Magnus, Inquisidor, Hombre Bala Jr. & Trueno on 05/24 and on 05/31 Block B will take place with Virus, Tiger Kid, Fuego, Pegasso, Sensei, Metal Blanco, Dragon Lee, & Super Halcon Jr. take part in their Cibernetico.
Another CMLL Star Coming To LL-USA
This week Lucha Libre USA announced that CMLL star Mr. Aguila will be joining Psicosis II on the TV Taping this weekend (05/28) in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Reason for Durango Kid’s CMLL Depature
The LuchaBlog reported that the reason for Durango Kid’s departure from CMLL earlier this year was that Durango Kid (along with Diamante) were responsible for setting up Mistico’s tryout with WWE. Diamante pretty much snitched out Durango after CMLL found out about Diamante. Diamante was suspended while Durango Kid was outright fired.
