Welcome to the latest edition of “From the Desk of Mr. V”. I am Anthony “Mr. V” Valvo, your Wrestleview resident “physical education” teacher with the same material as last time, but different names, matches, and articles.
So sit back and grab some coffee, a cold beverage, and please wash your hands. I hope you enjoy the 138th installment of “From the Desk of Mr. V”.

The Teacher’s Lecture on Hiatus until the foreseeable future.
Instead of going long-winded (or long-written) on my thoughts about various material and news involved with pro wrestling, I will just share with you my notes that I take each time I check out the news stories on Wrestleview. So I hope you enjoy this. Besides, I decided that I will add one more bit into my column. Something that I have not added on for over a year. So with that, Starting immediately, I am going to add “The Best on Television” (aka Weekly TV Wars). With the Best on Television, it will be what I considered the best segment and match on each show produced by WWE, TNA, and ROH. I will then think of a grade to match the show and decide which shows made it in the “Top 2”. Since we all debate on which show is better than what, I think now is right time to bring it back. We will start the week of October 24th and hopefully end the wars one year later.
As for the Teacher’s Lecture, I don’t think I will work on it until Christmas at the earliest. If not (because of the Golden Yardsticks and Rotten Apples), then the lecture will arrive possibly in the summer. Now, let’s open my Wrestleview Notebook.
Quick Notes from “The Notebook of Mr. V”
1) WrestleMania Makes a Record $62 Million for Atlanta
Quick Notes: This is big! For a company that gets berated because they put on “subpar” entertainment this will probably cause more to complain. Let’s face it, the WWE knows exactly what they are doing. Since they cleaned up the product a bit, added face value, and developed talented superstars the profits have not been too bad.
We know why cities from around the USA (and even the world) try to bring WrestleMania to their town. It generates MILLIONS of dollars to the city and it does much for the businesses surrounding the city. It generated almost $8 million in local, state, and county taxes. 75% of fans were from outside the Atlanta area, and the economic impact equated to the creation of over 600 full-time jobs for the Atlanta area.
It’s quite remarkable that something “fake” can do this. Let’s hope that they can exceed that number at the next one in Miami, FL.
2) The Rock training with The Miz and R-Truth.
Quick Notes: I like this. It is showing that The Rock, though not able to appear on a Raw, Smackdown, or whatever show live, is taking this PPV match at Survivor Series seriously.
This is the least that The Rock can do. He should not feel obliged to attend events live to show how he handles his business. The pro wrestling fans out there should be happy to see one of their icons from the “Attitude Era” participate in really the prime of his career. If the Rock trains hard (which is not a stretch because of his recent movies) and develops good chemistry with The Miz, R-Truth, and John Cena this could be an amazing PPV main event.
3) Maryse is gone.
Quick Notes: I know this may upset the fans north of the USA, but it does nothing for me. The divas roster in the WWE is flooded with women that have nothing to do at the moment.
This won’t hurt Maryse, as she is sure to find some other venture to pursue. She can be an actress now, do some photo shoot, or hang around with the celebrities around the country. She does not have to go to TNA, SHIMMER, or any other wrestling promotion. She had charisma and her in-ring work was average. That was it. With the likes of Kelly Kelly, Eve, Beth Phoenix, Natalya, Kharma, and many others (let’s not forget Maxine, AJ, and others in FCW) Maryse will not be missed for the WWE business model.
4) Muppets on Commentary.
Quick Notes: All you need to know is this. It is one of the BEST ideas ever! I watch wrestling to be entertained. Sure, wrestling is a big factor but what about the segments? If the Muppets characters “Statler and Waldorf” are truly going to manage the commentary duties, it will be GOLD.
Hey, it worked for the legendary Milton Berle.
5) Former WWE Diva Serena will be out of wrestling due to a concussion.
Quick Notes: Here is hopeing Serena recovers very quickly from her concussion. Whether people think so or not, concussions are a big deal now and we want Serena to be 100% ready when she wrestles. It’s a different era.
6) Barry Windham suffers a heart attack.
Quick Notes: My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. I hope he pulls through.
Detentions
Since I have been out a while, there will be plenty of detentions to go around. I even got some from the readers as well. Here we go:
Brian Hebner – He is in ETERNAL DETENTION. The guy looks like a goof when he refs now. One day he wears stupid ZeeTech shoes to match the rope colors, and now he loses multiple man points for wearing a UFC glove to made pin counts outside the ring in a match at Bound for Glory.
WWE – For a company that advocating the Be a Star movement (something I do endorse), giving Michael Cole permission to consistently rip on Jim Ross.
TNA – For building up a great babyface promo package for Bobby Roode and then having that end result at Bound for Glory. It was a slap in the face to the people that paid for the show.
Michael Cole – A regular here. I am just not a fan of the way he does commentary. As a color commentator or a 3rd guy, he is ok. But he should not be a “play-by-play”.
Jinder Mahal – Please learn to use your knees when applying a Cravat.
NXT “Rookies” – Once they can effectively cut a promo, they will be taken off the list.
NBA and the NBA Players – Some fans out there want basketball. Please stop bickering and get the job done.
Scott Hall – Yes, ESPN did a good piece on him and his road to recovery. But that is over, so Hall’s demons are back. I hope he can recover, but it looks worse by the week.

From Poetry to Music and even Professional Wrestling, Mr. Poindexter has unique writing that will please anyone. So go to his website if you like, and you can thank me later.
Again, there were many comments out there that were very insensitive and pathetic. I was about to give someone a Brody based on their uneducated comment under a TNA Recap, but I decided to use Gregory “Grash” Walek’s suggestion. Grash, I thank you.
This comment was posted under “Report: WWE to get more aggressive with Twitter” from October 30th. It comes from Jon Osterdahl. Let’s try and read what he posted:
“It’s so dumb. Just let wrestling be wrestling. Don’t try to push this social media bull$h!t. All this is gunna do is have children try to sign up for Twitter…”
Mr. V’s Opinion: I do appreciate that everyone can post opinions, but please think before you post on Facebook. Twitter is a very nice tool in social media. Twitter can be used for bloggers, sports teams, trolls, and celebrities who act like trolls in an upcoming movie.
I guess what I am typing is that every business pushes social media. It is the norm. CNN does it. ESPN does it. Zack Ryder does it, too and look where he is at. Other businesses that push social media are Target, American Eagle, Disney, Wendy’s, and others that are some the best businesses in the world.
Also, they are letting wrestling be wrestling still. You are still getting five to seven matches every week on Raw or Smackdown. If something would benefit business, why not use it?
So, to the WWE I say push social media. It worked on Facebook, it is now working on Twitter with what is trending, and it will be successful on this Google + if that comes through.
So Mr. Osterdahl, I politely disagree with that comment on Wrestleview. No need to use profanity, unless that does indeed inflate your Internet muscles.
Oh, and honorable mention to Mike Siroky as well, for his lack of spelling the word “lazy” correctly. I knew how to spell it in 2nd grade. Great job! You can find this delicious comment under the “Latest health update on Barry Windham” from October 30th.
Here is the other “Brody”-quality comment:
“First of all, Adam, lazt reporting. What is the windham phoro? 20-30 years ago? If you are tryimng to educate folks who never saw him, at least use a current photo…”
Mr. V’s Opinion: Someone was either drunk or did not graduate from elementary school. I mean, I guess it is understandable that he mistaked the “t” button with the “y” on the QWERTY keyboard (you know, because they are next to each other). Also, the lack of using “windham” as a proper noun would be an automatic failing grade in my real-life grade book. Just my opinion, but I would rather have see a picture of Windham in his prime than just before a heart attack. It’s just me of course.
I need a Tony Atlas laugh at these Brody winners.

“THE BEST” Wrestling Program (formerly Weekly TV Wars)
This grading period is from October 24 – October 31, 2011
IT’S BACK!!! And it is not the McRib. Each week I watch every wrestling program from WWE, TNA, and ROH for the integrity of my column and I grade each segment and match. I will post what I thought was the match of that card and what the best segment was from each program. I will then pick the top two programs and issue points (2 for the best, 1 for the second-best). It is called accountability of what is being produced. We, as wrestling fans, love a great show. It is time to see where the best shows lie.
October 24 – Monday Night Raw (in Austin, TX)
Segment of the Show: I have to say that the best happened after the main event. The way John Cena cut the promo to announce that The Rock was going to be his tag team partner had solid emotion and the reaction was welcomed with praise from the Austin, TX crowd. It was short and simple.
Match of the Program: Randy Orton and Sheamus vs. Christian and Cody Rhodes (Grade: B)
October 26 – WWE NXT (in Houston, TX)
Segment of the Show: Had to be the end of the show in which Derrick Bateman asked Maxine to marry him. I chose this (and obviously this was a small field to pick) because well, you can tell that Bateman is mad crazy for Maxine and Maxine is playing the crazy heel very well in all aspects.
Match of the Program: Percy Watson vs. JTG (Grade: C+)
October 27 – WWE Superstars (in Austin, TX (for Raw portion) and Houston, TX (for SD Portion))
Segment of the Show: Does the Raw Rebound count? As with Superstars, the segments are rare to find but the wrestling mostly is above average.
Match of the Program: Cody Rhodes vs. Ted DiBiase, Jr. (Grade: C+B-)
October 27 – Impact Wrestling (in Orlando, FL)
Segment of the Show: I am going with the start. James Storm showed how proud he was holding that TNA World Heavyweight Champion and attempted to celebrate with his Fortune members (AJ Styles, Kazarian, and Bobby Roode) when Samoa Joe entered and demanded a title shot after Storm said Roode would be the first-in-line. Sting then booked a match between Roode and Joe to determine who faces Storm for the championship. Out of all the segments, this one was the best.
Match of the Program: Bobby Roode vs. Samoa Joe (Grade: CC+)
October 28 – WWE Friday Night Smackdown (in Houston, TX)
Segment of the Show: Though I thought the beginning with Long, CM Punk, and Christian was great, I am giving the edge to The Big Show’s segment. The Big Show explained that he was in pain, but still wanted to have another match. Mark Henry sold his injuries as well, and announced that Show would get NO rematch. Big Show and Henry tease a fight, but Henry walked away holding up his World Heavyweight Championship.
Match of the Program: Randy Orton vs. Dolph Ziggler (Grade: B+)
October 30 – Ring of Honor Wrestling (in Louisville, KY)
Segment of the Show: The segments are few, but I will give the nod to the “Inside ROH” part of the program where Eddie Edwards and Jay Lethal make a case as to why they should be the man to face Davey Richards for the ROH World Championship.
Match of the Program: Jay Briscoe and Mark Briscoe vs. Rhett Titus and Kenny King (Grade: BB)
All in all, there was at least one match on each card that got an “above average” score. But in the end I look for not just wrestling, but the segments that lead up something more special. I did not get that with some shows. So here is my overall top six and the top two shows of the week.
6) WWE Superstars – The card was average. The segments never happened, but that is expected with this program.
5) Impact Wrestling – The start of the show was good, however the wrestling matches were too short to grade them higher than I did. I could do without the Bischoff family feud.
4) WWE Monday Night Raw – The card was mixed. Liked the first match on the card, but nothing else caught my eye. There were some noticeable sloppy spots (the end of Barrett/Morrison comes to mind). Strong ending to the Cena segment, but the HHH/Nash segment could have been shorter. Again, just my opinion.
3) Ring of Honor Wrestling – The card was good with three matches that had a bit of praise. The taped segments were not great, nor bad. Roderick Strong seriously needs someone to talk for him, and Charlie Haas sounded forced.
2) WWE NXT (1 point) – The card was average with a couple of surprises. I think the storylines bumped them up. The hour seemed to go by very quickly, and seems like everything is lined up for a solid season finale of the show.
1) Friday Night Smackdown (2 points) – Three matches on this card got at least a “B-” grade in my book, so if a fan likes wrestling in their program this show won hands down. They balanced the wrestling with some solid segments in the ring and backstage. This was simply the best show of the week.

Out of the Staff, Anthony Valvo went 6-1 record on the predictions. Jose Marrero maintains a two-win lead in the standings with only six PPVs left.
Among the readers, Brian Czygan went a perfect 7-0 and earned the title “Student of the Week” for the next PPV, which will be TNA Turning Point.
The previous student of the week, Wade Bradford was finally defeated. He scored a 4-3.
We had 25 different sets of predictions and the average wins were 3.84. So based on estimation I had them go 4-3 for WWE Vengeance.

St. Louis Cardinals – They are the 2011 World Series Champions and deserve the praises.
Velvet Sky – She is the new TNA Knockout’s Champion, and has come a long way since being a lackey with The Beautiful People.

Matt Carlins – A good friend of mine on Twitter and a producer for my favorite news station in the area, KDKA.
Troy Polamalu – Without him, the Pittsburgh Steelers would not have a good defense at all.
Air Boom – Let’s face it, they are a solid tag team together and could be just what the WWE needs for the future of tag team wrestling. They have something with some set tag teams and makeshift ones. Should be interesting in a couple months.
Cody Rhodes – He demonstrated a solid work ethic and is deserving of this push he is receiving.
Dolph Ziggler – Can someone in the WWE please place him in the main event? He is worth it now.
Mark Henry and The Big Show – I get it, the spot has been done before. However, it is still pretty to watch, right?
Alberto Del Rio – For doing the impossible. He defeated John Cena two PPVs in a row.
Ricardo Rodriguez – Do you think Del Rio’s character would have any success without Ricardo?
Zack Ryder – He went from going nowhere in the WWE to taking a chance with his YouTube channel and now look. He is appearing on weekly television and still getting a pop.
El Generico – I now consider him as my favorite masked wrestler at this time! OLE!
Maxine – She may be my favorite WWE Diva right now. Give her a seven minute segment, and you will have a well balanced match with her involved.
Colt Cabana – He gets one for having an awesome Podcast.
The Briscoes vs. All Night Express – It is one of the best feuds going in pro wrestling today.
William Regal – The man deserves a Gold Star for his commentary in the past couple weeks of NXT. He alone is worth watching NXT.
