So, WWE is in the homestretch to Wrestlemania. The company has a main event they’ve been building for a year: The Rock versus John Cena. It’s the buildup for biggest show of the year for WWE…and usually storylines heat up in anticipation for WWE’s day of the year.

Yet TV ratings are pretty much at the same levels as they were when football season started. The hoped-for gains for the home stretch aren’t coming so far.

Why?

Because WWE is too busy trying to be an “action-adventure” show. Kind of tough when, even though a lot of the Rock-Cena promos have been entertaining, the shows since Elimination Chamber are heavy on talk, and light on action or “adventure”. It’s busy trying to be an “sports entertainment” juggernaut, producing films, trying to start a TV network (something that seems to be quietly being put on the back burner), trying to be an internet content provider on You Tube, and trying to get over on Twitter…all rather than do one simple thing:

Being a wrestling company.

Only recently has the word “wrestling” been permitted on occasion to creep slowly into commentary again. The purpose of wrestling on television is to get people to come to shows, buy PPVs, and buy related merchandise. Not to get over wrestlers or storylines briefly trending on Twitter, then forgotten about as soon as the next interesting thing comes along. Yet if you’d watch RAW, you’d think that was often the primary purpose of RAW…to get something trending, rather than to get over the storyline and the wrestlers in the ring.

In the end, the next few weeks shows need to say ot people like you and me…here’s why we want to spend a good chunk of money for our signature PPV, and if in the area, to come to the related events like the Hall of Fame, AXXESS; and buy any and all related merchandise.

Another reminder on cancer-related charity shows.
