Viva La Raza!: Lucha Weekly
May 1, 2009
By: Josh Boutwell of WrestleView.com

First off, I have to start this week off by sending my best wishes out to all of those in and around Mexico as well as the rest of the south here in America that are being affected by the Swine Flu epidemic. It’s even now wormed it’s way into my state, Alabama. Due to this epidemic there is not a ton to report on this week with most of the shows being canceled all over Mexico, but I will do my best to report on what has happened and what is planned as well as give the final Roll Call of Champions for April.

Swine Flu Continues to Hurt Lucha

All of the Lucha shows in and around Mexico City this past weekend were canceled and almost all of the lucha shows in and around Mexico City for the remainder of the week up until at least Friday or Saturday have been canceled. I will keep you posted as more news comes out regarding upcoming shows.

CMLL

NJPW’s No Limit Headed to CMLL

Former IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Champions: Yujiro & Tetsuya Naito who make up the tag team No Limit are on their way to CMLL. No Limit are currently wrestling in TNA feuding with the Motor City Machine Guns over the Jr. Titles. They are expected to make their first appearence in CMLL on May 11. I’m fairly sure that they will just be doing CMLL shows in between TNA tapings.

Mistico & Misterioso II Cancel NJPW Trip

The planned matches for May 5th featuring CMLL stars, Mistico & Misterioso II, will have to be changed up due to flights being restricted coming out of Mexico (due to the Swine Flu epidemic). Also, Shigeo Okumura (a NJPW and CMLL regular) will not be able to make the trip. NJPW hopes to bring the trio in sometime in the future.

Dos Caras Jr. Speaks Out Against CMLL

During the weekend shutdown of Mexico City CMLL did not pay any of their wrestlers for the shows since they were canceled so Dos Caras Jr. spoke out in the media this week about the problem. He feels that since CMLL still gets paid by TV and merchandising the luchadores should still be paid for the canceled shows, which I agree with.

CHIKARA Joins Forces with Dragon Gate USA

At this weekends CHIKARA shows (results are below for both shows) it was announced that CHIKARA would be joining forces with DGUSA starting at Dragon Gate USA’s debut show on July 25th at the ECW Arena in Philly! Skayde (Jorge Rivera) was a main focus of the video package highlighting the pairing.
