Rumors on card for WrestleMania 25

According to a new report by The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, a few matches appear to be set for WrestleMania 25 on April 5 based on what went down at the Royal Rumble.

Possible matches at this point include Jeff Hardy vs. Matt Hardy, Shawn Michaels vs. JBL or a possible Michaels vs. Undertaker match, Edge vs. Triple H for the WWE Title, Jack Swagger vs. Tommy Dreamer for the ECW Title and the annual “Money in the Bank” match. This of course leaves out John Cena and the World Heavyweight Title match. Cena could either be involved in a triple threat with JBL and Michaels or a possible match with Chris Jericho with plans appearing to be off with Mickey Rourke despite creative being told more than a week ago to get a storyline ready.

Probably the biggest piece of news is that Steve Austin is still at this point scheduled to wrestle a farewell match at WrestleMania this year. There has been lots of talk internally about the match and who Austin would be facing. The top candidate at this point is Randy Orton as he was already positioned to be the key player in the main event of the show this year. There are no plans for an Austin vs. Hulk Hogan match despite discussion recently by Hogan. At one point they company had pitched an Austin vs. Rock match as a 25th anniversary special match. Jim Ross noted recently that he believes Rock will never wrestle again and based on that it appears the company tried and failed to get him for the show.

Considering we are entering the beginning of February, all plans for WrestleMania are always subject to change and more will start to become developed in the weeks following No Way Out.
