Alliance of American Football originally planned to buy XFL name from WWE and NBC

Darren Rovell of The Action Network (and formerly of ESPN) revealed details about a new lawsuit filed against Charlie Ebersol and the Alliance of American Football.

A lawsuit filed by Robert Vanech claims it was his idea to come up with the league and feels he is entitled to 50% ownership, noting that a previous agreement with Ebersol was “ignored” and that he now wants to be compensated for his contribution.

The most interesting aspect of the lawsuit was that Ebersol and AAF officials had originally planned to use the XFL name and purchase its assets from WWE and NBC for an estimated $50 million. WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon also met with AAF executives and decided to bring back the XFL instead, which relaunches in 2020.
