Charlotte Flair defeated Asuka to become the new Smackdown Women’sChampion on Smackdown Live earlier tonight. This is her record-breaking eighth title reign.
Trish Straus held the previous record of seven title reigns in WWE. This was when only one single Women’s Championship existed in the company.
Here is an excerpt from the conclusion of the Charlotte vs. Asuka match:
“Flair goes for another elbow but Asuka grabs her arm and the triangle onto Flair. Charlotte stands up and lifts Asuka up. She slams Asuka into a sit down power bomb. She goes for the cover but Asuka kicks out again. Flair goes for the figure four but Asuka reverses it but she can’t get the Asuka lock. Flair reverses it into the figure four.
