John Hennigan reportedly set for a WWE return

According to PWInsider and F4WOnline, along with several other media outlets are reporting John Hennigan is returning to WWE for the first time in eight years.

As of this report there are no contract details or official start date for Hennigan.

Hennigan, signed a development contract during the third season of WWE Tough Enough back in 2002.

After working with Ohio Valley Wrestling, he was briefly called-up to the main WWE roster in 2004, and then became full-time in 2005 under the in-ring name of Johnny Blaze. He was also part of the MNM faction with Joey Mercury and Melina.

He went later had his in-ring name changed to Johnny Nitro and then finally to John Morrison with a gimmick modeled after musician Jim Morrison of The Doors.

Morrison held the WWE Intercontinental Championship and ECW Championship under the WWE banner.

He left WWE at the end of November 2011 citing physical issues and creative frustrations.  He then began to appear on the independent wrestling scene before signing with El Ray Network’s Lucha Underground television series.

He also appeared in Lucha AAA Worldwide from 2015-2018.  Most recently, he wrested in Impact Wrestling under the in ring name of Johnny Impact where he held the Impact World Heavyweight Championship.

Hennigan’s last appearance with Impact was at Slammiversary back in July where he challenged Rich Swann for the X-Division Championship and was unsuccessful.

In addition to professional wrestling he has appeared in several independent films, including and appearance on CBS’ Survivor.

Following the end of his Impact contract, Hennigan announced back in July he was taking time off for advanced stem cell treatment for nagging injuries that occurred over the last 18 years.

Hennigan’s real-life wife Taya Valkyrie remains in Impact and currently is the longest reigning Knockouts Champion.
