On Thursday’s conference call for investors following the release of the 2019 Q4 financial report, Vince McMahon mentioned that the company has had “advanced talks” that would be “transformative” with other OTT (over-the-top) companies about changes to the WWE Network.
Changes mentioned could be content rights for events like WrestleMania and the Royal Rumble, or a different distribution model for the WWE Network. McMahon said the change could be announced this quarter. Interim CFO Frank Riddick said there is nothing that would stop them from selling the rights to their major shows if they chose to.
McMahon also mentioned they have options to keep their free and paid tiers for now or distribute content to major OTT companies. McMahon stated, “There’s no better time as of right now to exercise the selling of our rights.”
