Official trailer released today for new WWE Studios Netflix film “The Main Event”

WWE released the official trailer today for the new WWE Studios film “The Main Event” which will debut on Netflix Friday, April 10.

The trailer can be viewed above.

We had reported last February that WWE Studios and Netflix were partnering to develop new family-friendly films to air on the streaming service.

Production for the new film began last June in Vancouver, BC.

“The Main Event” tells the story of a ten-year old boy who is bullied but dreams of growing up to become a WWE professional wrestler. However, he gets to live his dream earlier when he discovers the secret to having super-strength in a magical lucha mask he buys at an estate sale and becomes Kid Chaos.

The film stars Seth Carr (Black Panther), Tichina Arnold (The Neighborhood, Everybody Hates Chris), Ken Marino (The Other Two, Black Monday, Bad Milo), and Adam Pally (Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life, The Mindy Project).

“The Main Event” also includes several WWE Superstars, including Keith Lee, Babatunde, The Miz, Otis, Kofi Kingston, Sheamus, Mia Yim, Corey Graves and Renee Young. According to PWInsider, the original version of the film featured a John Cena cameo and a scene with Bray Wyatt, but as the screenplay was re-written, those elements/scenes were dropped.

The film was written by Peter Hoare, who also wrote the screenplay for the short lived CBS series “Kevin Can Wait.”
