Cain Velasquez reportedly released by WWE as part of cuts made due to COVID-19

Cain Velasquez released by WWE

According to a new report by Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline, Cain Velasquez has been released from his WWE contract, part of the many cuts made by the company in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Velasquez debuted with WWE in October 2019 on the debut episode of SmackDown on FOX. It was announced shortly after that Velasquez had signed a multi-year deal with the company.

Velasquez would go on to face Brock Lesnar for the WWE Championship later that month at WWE Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia, a match that Velasquez lost in minutes to submission. Velasquez famously defeated Lesnar at UFC 121 from October 2010.

Other than those appearances, Velasquez has not been used by the company outside of a November 2019 WWE Live Event appearance in Mexico City teaming with Humberto Carrillo.
