WWE issues statement regarding the sexual assault allegation made against Matt Riddle

Matt Riddle accused of sexual assault

As the fallout continues to unfold in the wake of the #SpeakingOut movement where wrestlers and fans are coming forward with stories of abuse brought on by other wrestlers and promoters, another wrestler has had an accusation brought against him.

Matt Riddle has been accused on Twitter of sexual assault by Candy Cartwright, who works for WWN. According to Cartwright, she was traveling in a van with Riddle and three other wrestlers. After the other wrestlers had fallen asleep, Riddle asked Cartwright to have sex with him. When she refused, Riddle allegedly grabbed her by the throat and said, “What if I just made you?” She wound up performing oral sex to appease him.

In direct messages on Twitter that have been leaked, Riddle and his wife claim that Cartwright stalked Riddle, causing him to change his phone number numerous times and considering a restraining order. Riddle stated to the person he was speaking to that WWE and his lawyer are already moving for a defamation lawsuit.

WWE released this statement to Wrestleview, which is the same statement the company made about the Jordan Devlin allegation:

“We take any allegation of this nature very seriously and are looking into the matter.”

Riddle is set to make his SmackDown debut tonight on FOX. The show was taped this past Monday at the WWE Performance Center.

We will continue to follow this story as more becomes available.
