CM Punk vs. Big Show

Before the match starts, Chicago’s own CM Punk grabs a mic and the crowd starts a loud, “CM PUNK” chant. Punk says he loves Chicago. He said he loves the parks, Navy Pier and the skyline. Punk said he loves the history and he, again, loves Chicago. Punk said what he despises the most are the people who live in Chicago. He said “they” ruined his beautiful city, the middle class lazy teamsters and corrupt politicians and police officers. Punk added how horrible the Chicago White Sox are and the Suzy Homemakers who fatten up their kids and take pills so they can pass out on the couch. He adds, “You people make me sick.” Punk said he is proud to live in Chicago, but feels it should be “burned to the ground” and in the ashes he can build up his own Straight Edge Society. He said speaking of fat people, everyone say Big Show punch him with his big fat fist and he runs from nobody and actually showed up tonight. Punk said the power of almighty Straight Edge will overcome Big Show tonight.

CM Punk attempts some quick kicks early on and Big Show drops him immediately. Punk with a quick dropkick, but Big Show catches him with a kick and forearm to the back. Big Show chokes Punk with his boot in the corner. Big Show then chest chops Punk right over the top rope. Punk catches Big Show with a big knee to the jaw and connects with a senton off the ring apron to Big Show on the mat. A loud “CM PUNK” chant starts up. Referee starts the count. Punk counts along. Big Show rolls back in at nine. Punk with some kicks to Big Show on the mat. Punk comes off the middle rope with a flying elbow. Punk with kicks to Big Show’s chest and then a big kick to the head. Big Show takes out Punk with a huge tackle as Punk was attempting a springboard clothesline. Big Show with his knockout punch, hooks the leg and gets the pinfall.

Winner: Big Show

After the match, Big Show exits the ring favoring his ribs after taking kicks from Punk.

Backstage, Josh Mathews is with Chris Jericho. Mathews says Edge sounds confident after Todd Grisham spoke with him earlier. Jericho said he was put in this match for a reason. He said these kind of matches favor him. Jericho said tonight he walks out the new WWE Champion and it isn’t because of luck, it is because he is the best at what he does.

At ringside, Michael Cole reminds us that Jericho promised if he didn’t win the WWE Championship tonight, he would leave WWE. We see a shot of members of the National Guard at ringside. Matt Striker all of a sudden adds that Jericho retracted that promise he made a few weeks ago. Cole added, “Well, he put it out there.”

A video package runs highlighting the events between The Miz and Daniel Bryan starting during the season season of NXT followed by his return to WWE last month at Summerslam.
