Bayley’s replacement, Women’s Title Match now set for Houston

WWE has announced that SmackDown Women’s Champion Bianca Belair will defend her title during next Friday’s live SmackDown from the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas

Next Friday will be WWE’s first return to the road since March 2020.

We reported on Friday that Bayley tore her ACL while training at the WWE Performance Center.  She is expected to be out of for about 9 months. She was originally scheduled to challenge Bianca Belair in an“I Quit” match at the Money in the Bank pay-per-view next Sunday, July 18.

WWE announced on Friday that Sonya Deville would be announcing during  SmackDown, a “suitable replacement” for Bayley to challenge Bianca Belair for SmackDown Women’s Title at the Money in the Bank.  However, instead, Deville scrapped the pay-per-view match and announced that Belair will defend her title against Carmella on next week’s SmackDown in Houston, Texas.

During the segment (watch above), Liv Morgan came out accusing Deville of favoritism. Deville then said Morgan is replacing Carmella in the SmackDown Women’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match. Morgan then turned to Carmella and told that  she hopes she wins the title next Friday so she can cash in on her.

Liv Morgan now joins Asuka, Naomi, Alexa Bliss, Nikki Cross and Zelina Vega as SmackDown Women’s Money in the Bank entrants.

Money in the Bank, which will take place on Sunday, July 18 from the Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.  The show will air live on Peacock in the United States, and the WWE Network everywhere else.
