Staff predictions: WWE Survivor Series 2011

Predictions from the Faculty
WWE Survivor Series PPV
November 20, 2011
Predictions by: Wrestleview Columnists and Staff
Written by: Anthony J. Valvo of Wrestleview.com

Introduction

Welcome to the latest edition of “Predictions from the Faculty” (Season #3). This weekend, we gathered our thoughts for the upcoming WWE Pay-Per-View, as we will provide our selections for The Final Big Four event of 2011 for World Wrestling Entertainment, Survivor Series. The show will be held in beautiful Madison Square Garden in New York City, NY.

The card is currently booked to have six matches.

In case you are new to reading these predictions, here is the format. Each Pay-Per-View a few of the columnists on Wrestleview provide predictions on who they think will win the matches. We accumulate the records throughout the end of the Faculty’s year (in this case, the 2012 Royal Rumble).

What makes this entirely different to others is that you, the reader, can provide your picks for a spot to have yours posted in an upcoming PPV. All the readers have to do is either leave me a message on Facebook or e-mail at mistervwv@hotmail.com. The winner among the “Wrestleview Students” will win an opportunity to post their picks as a “Student of the Week” (if they outright defeat the reigning Students of the Week). We all thank you for your participation.

Tie-Breakers will determine standings!

I have decided to prevent some tiebreakers, I will issue points to Title Matches that are predicted correctly. There will be four championship matches on the card, so the maximum amount of points to go along with the win/loss standing will be FOUR points. Also, if I throw out a pick for a championship, then obviously no bonus will be counted for that particular match.

But what, to the Wrestleview “students”, there is more!

I got approval for this decision, and for the FIRST time in our three seasons the students will compete for PRIZES!!! That is right; we felt that your loyalty to the article shall be rewarded. However, the prizes* will not be handed out until the FINAL PPV Prediction of the season (which will be WWE’s Royal Rumble 2012). So not only will one get a chance to earn a Gold Star and be a part of this game, but it will be for a competition.

*Prizes go out to the top three (the most picked correctly and if needed tiebreaker points) positions and the worst (most matches picked incorrectly with the fewest tiebreaker points).

Tie-Breaker Points – Which are based on Championship matches correct

46: Mike Tedesco
45: Jose Marrero
44: Gregory Walek
43: Jason Namako
42: Dave Stephens; Ryan Rivera; Anthony Valvo
41: Josh Boutwell
40: Greg McNeish; Nicholas Gray
38: Evan O’Brien
34: Matt O’Brien; Darragh O’Connor

The Student of the Week for WWE Vengeance will be Jordan Benterman. Not only is he the Student of the Week, but he is the current leader among the Wrestleview Reader by a large margin.

The Best of the Class (Top 3 earn a prize. Tie-Breaker Points in parentheses)

Prizes:

1st Place – A DVD Set of our choosing (max 3 disc set).
2nd Place – A T-Shirt
3rd Place – A Coffee Mug
Worst – TNA Victory Road 2009 (or 2011) DVD.

The WrestleView Reader Leaderboard

I will just type out the top readers at this time. The first set of parentheses is the W/L record for WWE’s Hell in a Cell. The second parentheses are the Tie-Breaker points.

1) Jordan Benterman…………………………………………..94-50 (7-1) (45) – #1
2) Brian Czygan……………………………………………………90-54 (5-3) (46) – #2
3) Wade Bradford………………………………………………..90-54 (6-2) (43) – #3
4) Sam Newstone……………………………………………….88-56 (6-2) (47)
5) Michael Fox……………………………………………………88-56 (6-2) (40)
6) Nick Latham…………………………………………………….85-51 (6-2) (44)

The person with the most picks incorrect is currently 54-75 with 27 tiebreaker points. Therefore, I deem that score the worst.

Also to those that have participated in all the previous PPVs, keep it up. Though there are only four PPVs left you can still be a Student of the Week sometime this year.

As of Press Time, Gregory “Grash” Walek, Dave Stephens, Mike Tedesco, and Greg McNeish have yet to offer predictions. Stephens and Tedesco will offer theirs on “The Teacher’s Lounge”.

And now, the moment you all have been waiting for…

Predictions for WWE Survivor Series

*** NON-TITLE MATCHES ***

Traditional Survivor Series Match
Team Barrett (Wade Barrett, Cody Rhodes, Dolph Ziggler, Jack Swagger, and Hunico)

vs.

Team Orton (Randy Orton, Sheamus, Kofi Kingston, Sin Cara, and Mason Ryan)

Jose M. – TEAM ORTON.

Ryan R. – TEAM ORTON.

Gregory W. – N/A.

Dave S. – N/A.

Mike T. – N/A.

Jason N. – TEAM BARRETT.

Anthony V. – TEAM ORTON. Won’t be surprised because Barrett is pushed very well but in the end I am predicting that Ryan and Kingston are out first, then all of Team Barrett. Orton, Sheamus, and Cara are your survivors.

Nicholas G. – TEAM APEX PREDATOR.

Josh B. – TEAM BORETON.

Greg M. – N/A.

Evan O. – TEAM ORTON.

Darragh O. – TEAM ORTON.

Matt O. – TEAM ORTON.

Jordan B. – TEAM ORTON.

CONSENSUS: TEAM ORTON. The match looks great on paper, but the vast majority of the staff believes that Orton’s team has the better chance to win.

TEAM ORTON 9; Team Barrett 1.

Tag Team Match (Never Before…Never Again)
The Rock and John Cena vs. The Miz and R-Truth

Jose M. – CENA AND THE ROCK.

Ryan R. – CENA AND ROCK.

Gregory W. – N/A.

Dave S. – N/A.

Mike T. – N/A.

Jason N. – THE MIZ & R-TRUTH.

Anthony V. – CENA AND ROCK. Totally looking forward to this match because of all the hype and I am very curious to see how The Rock does. The Miz and Cena should deliver and Truth should bump well, but what about Rocky. I say he will make “The Millions” happy.

Nicholas G. – JOHN/ROCK.

Josh B. – CENA AND DWAYNE.

Greg M. – N/A.

Evan O. – JOHN CENA AND THE ROCK.

Darragh O. – JOHN CENA AND THE ROCK.

Matt O. – CENA AND ROCK.

Jordan B. – CENA/ROCK.

CONSENSUS: CENA AND ROCK. Let’s face it, the show is all about The Rock’s return. Is he really going to lose in his return to MSG?

CENA/ROCK 9; Miz/R-Truth 1.

*** CHAMPIONSHIP MATCHES ***

Lumberjill Match for the WWE Diva’s Championship
Beth Phoenix (c) vs. Eve Torres

Jose M. – BETH PHOENIX.

Ryan R. – BETH PHOENIX.

Gregory W. – N/A.

Dave S. – N/A.

Mike T. – N/A.

Jason N. – EVE.

Anthony V. – PHOENIX. She is going to have the title for a while.

Nicholas G. – BETH.

Josh B. – THE GLAMAZONIAN.

Greg M. – N/A.

Evan O. – BETH PHEONIX.

Darragh O. – BETH PHEONIX.

Matt O. – BETH PHEONIX.

Jordan B. – BETH.

CONSENSUS: BETH PHEONIX. It seems like it is taking a while for Phoenix to carry the torch of this division. However, the majority believes that no one else can really carry the title other than the Glamazon. Look for the title to not change hands.

PHEONIX 9; Eve 1.

Singles Match for the WWE United States Championship
Dolph Ziggler (c) vs. John Morrison

Jose M. – DOLPH ZIGGLER.

Ryan R. – ZIGGLES.

Gregory W. – N/A.

Dave S. – N/A.

Mike T. – N/A.

Jason N. – DOLPH ZIGGLER.

Anthony V. – ZIGGLER. Morrison’s contract is reportedly expiring soon, and it would not be wise to switch it. I won’t be surprised if Ryder gets an impromptu match and wins it in front of the home crowd. Then again, don’t bet on hometown heroes.

Nicholas G. – MORRISON.

Josh B. – JIM MORRISON.

Greg M. – N/A.

Evan O. – DOLPH ZIGGLER.

Darragh O. – DOLPH ZIGGLER.

Matt O. – DOLPH ZIGGLER.

Jordan B. – DOLPH.

CONSENSUS: DOLPH ZIGGLER. Though the team he represented is not predicted to win, Ziggler will not go home empty handed. The staff believe that the championship will be retained as Ziggler might put an end to Morrison’s WWE career.

ZIGGLER 8; Morrison 2.

Singles Match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship
Mark Henry (c) vs. The Big Show

Jose M. – MARK HENRY.

Ryan R. – HALL OF PAIN!! MARK HENRY!

Gregory W. – N/A.

Dave S. – N/A.

Mike T. – N/A.

Jason N. – MARK HENRY.

Anthony V. – HENRY. Either by pin or disqualification, I can’t go against Show yet. Also, I don’t think Show is that next-in-line guy. Will Daniel Bryan cash in after the match? It will be teased, but no.

Nicholas G. – HENRY.

Josh B. – 5-head aka HENRY.

Greg M. – N/A.

Evan O. – MARK HENRY.

Darragh O. – MARK HENRY.

Matt O. – MARK HENRY.

Jordan B. – MARK HENRY.

CONSENSUS: MARK HENRY. This is the only match that we all agree on. It is just not time to have Henry drop the title to The Big Show.

HENRY 10; Show 0.

Singles Match for the WWE Championship
Alberto Del Rio (c) vs. CM Punk

Jose M. – CM PUNK.

Ryan R. – I’m going out on a limb and picking the Straight Edge Savior, CM PUNK! FAITH!

Gregory W. – N/A.

Dave S. – N/A.

Mike T. – N/A.

Jason N. – ALBERTO DEL RIO.

Anthony V. – DEL RIO. As I discussed with some members of Wrestleview, if Del Rio loses he is crushed. If Punk loses, he still is the best when it comes to talking. I say Del Rio holds it for a bit more. Besides, Punk as a chaser is more entertaining.

Nicholas G. – DEL RIO.

Josh B. – Alberto Del RRRRRRRRRRRIIIIIIIIIIIIOOOOOOOO…naw CM PUNK….I just wanted to do the Rodriguez thing.

Greg M. – N/A.

Evan O. – ALBERTO DEL RIO.

Darragh O. – CM PUNK.

Matt O. – DEL RIO.

Jordan B. – CM PUNK.

CONSENSUS: SPLIT. This match will vary depending on which remaining staff members need to post a pick, but right now we can’t decide on a winner. So, who will win this match? Punk and his tenacity or Del Rio with his cleverness? Either way, it should be a very entertaining title match.

Del Rio and CM Punk each got 5 votes.
