Paramount, Comcast reportedly discussed streaming merger

The Wall Street Journal has reported that Paramount and Comcast have had recent discussions about joining forces with a partnership or joint venture in streaming.

According to the report, Paramount is pursuing several potential strategic options, including the Comcast partnership that would see Paramount+ and Peacock combined.

The report notes that such a merger could result in major cost savings from programming and marketing perspectives, along with a more comprehensive live sports package for customers.

It is unclear how the resulting venture would impact Comcast’s current deal with WWE, which sees the latter’s content library and Premium Live Events as part of the service through 2026.

This comes after the companies launced SkyShowtime in several European markets in 2021, as well as previous reports of Paramount having discussions with Warner Bros. Discovery.
