PPV Predictions: WWE Over the Limit 2012

Predictions from the Faculty
WWE Over the Limit Edition

We still miss you, Macho Man.

Introduction

Welcome to the Round #8 of “Predictions from the Faculty” (Season #4). This weekend, we gathered our thoughts for the upcoming WWE Pay-Per-View, as we will provide our selections for WWE Over the Limit. The show will be held at PNC Arena in Raleigh, NC.

The card is currently booked to have seven matches.

In case you are new to reading these predictions, here is the format. Each Pay-Per-View a few of the columnists, recappers, and radio hosts at Wrestleview provide predictions on who they think will win the matches. We accumulate the records throughout the end of the Faculty’s year (in this case, the 2013 Royal Rumble or WreslteMania XXIX as we are unsure of the decision).

What makes this entirely different to others is that you, the reader, can provide your picks for a spot to have yours posted in an upcoming PPV. You can participate by contacting me in any means under the “Dismissal” portion of this piece. The winner among the “Wrestleview Students” will win an opportunity to post their picks as a “Student of the Week” (if they outright defeat the reigning Students of the Week). We all thank you for your participation.

Tie-Breakers will determine standings!

I have decided to prevent some tiebreakers, I will issue points to Title Matches that are predicted correctly. There will be four championship matches on the card, so the maximum amount of points to go along with the win/loss standing will be FOUR points. Also, if I throw out a pick for a championship, then obviously no bonus will be counted for that particular match.

But wait, to the Wrestleview “students”, there is more!

I got approval for this decision, and for the SECOND time in our four seasons the students will compete for PRIZES!!! That is right; we felt that your loyalty to the article shall be rewarded. However, the prizes* will not be handed out until the FINAL PPV Prediction of the season (which will be WWE’s Royal Rumble 2013). So not only will one get a chance to earn a Gold Star and be a part of this game, but it will be for a competition.

*Prizes go out to the top three (the most picked correctly and if needed tiebreaker points) positions and the worst (most matches picked incorrectly with the fewest tiebreaker points).

Predictions for WWE Over the Limit

(Note: N/A means that a person’s picks are “not available” at the moment).

*** Non-Title Matches ***

YouTube Pre-Show Match (will count due to it announced days in advance)
Kane vs. Zack Ryder

Nick G. – KAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANE~!

Evan O. – KANE.

Josh B. – KANE.

Dave S. – KANE, cause I was told by a little birdie to pick Zack Ryder.

Jason N. – KANE.

Anthony V. – KANE. I am a fan of Ryder, but there is no way Kane loses.

Jose M. – N/A.

Matt O. – KANE.

Greg M. – KANE. Ryder’s had his fun, but he’s just not there as a worker, to be sustaining what he had. He’s still very young, and now has history to draw upon, down the road, when he’s ready. For now, Kane’s got babyface champions to lose to.

Darragh O. – KANE.

Grash – KANE.

Mike T. – KANE.

Wade B. – Has anyone fallen further over the past six months than Ryder? A good chokeslam from Kane’s gonna make him fall even further. KANE wins.

CONSENSUS: KANE 12-0. Remember when Zack Ryder was such a big hit that he was booked to win the United States Championship? Yeah, don’t expect Ryder to beat the Big Red Monster tonight.

Singles Match

Stipulations: If anyone interferes in the match employed by the WWE will be terminated. If John Laurinaitis loses, he will be terminated. Match much end in a pinfall or submission.)

John Cena vs. John Laurinaitis

Nick G. – JOHNNY ACE.

Evan O. – JOHNNY ACE.

Josh B. – CENA.

Dave S. – JOHN CENA.

Jason N. – BIG JOHNNY.

Anthony V. – LAURINAITIS. Cena was overconfident in the closing Raw segment. An overconfident Cena loses. A dejected Cena wins. Expect Big Johnny to GM throughout the summer.

Jose M. – N/A.

Matt O. – JOHN LAURINAITIS.

Greg M. – JOHN LAURINAITIS. They telegraphed interference in this one, almost assuredly by Big Show, who is desperate to get his job back, even if it means selling his soul. If they play him as conflicted and reluctant, even better.

Darragh O. – JOHNNY “ACE” LAURINITIS.

Grash – JOHNNY ACE.

Mike T. – JOHN LAURINITIS.

Wade B. – Big Show was conveniently fired just in time to help Johnny by knocking out Cena from the crowd and getting rehired on Monday. LAURINITIS wins.

CONSENSUS: LAURINITIS 10-2. Whether one says that he is “Big Johnny”, “Johnny Ace”, or “John Laurinitis”, this is the John you want to predict as the winner.

*** Championship Matches ***

Singles Match for the WWE Divas’ Championship
Layla (c) vs. Beth Phoenix

Nick G. – LAYLA~!

Evan O. – LAYLA.

Josh B. – BETH.

Dave S. – LAYLA, cause there is a song about her. Well not her but a girl named Layla.

Jason N. – LAYLA.

Anthony V. – LAYLA. Total guess, as there is no real story to this.

Jose M. – N/A.

Matt O. – LAYLA.

Greg M. – LAYLA. Beth sucks. She’s always sucked. Deal with it.

Darragh O. – LAYLA.

Grash – LAYLA.

Mike T. – LAYLA.

Wade B. – I don’t think they would’ve bothered with Beth losing the title if she was going to win this match. Something’s going on with her. This match’ll be the first in a series between these two. LAYLA retains the title.

CONSENSUS: LAYLA 11-1. Phoenix made a strong return on Raw, but it should not be enough to win back her championship.

Tag Team Match for the WWE Tag Team Championship
Kofi Kingston and R-Truth (c’s) vs. Jack Swagger and Dolph Ziggler

Nick G. – TROOF/KOFI.

Evan O. – KOFI KINGSTON AND R-TRUTH.

Josh B. – KOFI & R-TRUTH.

Dave S. – The champs (KOFI AND TRUTH) retain.

Jason N. – KOFI & TRUTH.

Anthony V. – KINGSTON and TRUTH. I want to be wrong with this prediction. They can “hot potato” these titles and no one would really notice.

Jose M. – N/A.

Matt O. – KOFI & TRUTH.

Greg M. – KOFI & TRUTH. With A.W. and the foreigners, these belts should stay with the bouncy guy, and the crazy guy.

Darragh O. – KOFI AND R-TRUTH.

Grash – KOFI & TRUTH.

Mike T. – KOFI KINGSTON AND R-TRUTH.

Wade B. – Shouldn’t Ziggler be a fixture in the title scene by now, instead of still fooling around with this mid-card stuff again? Just saying. Anyway, The Ghanaian Truth won’t lose until Primo and Epico cash in their rematch. KOFI AND TRUTH retain the titles.

CONSENSUS: KOFI AND TRUTH 12-0. Remember when Dolph Ziggler and Jack Swagger were both World Champions? For the second time in our predictions game, every staff member agrees on who the winner will be tonight.

Fatal Four Way for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship
Sheamus (c) vs. Randy Orton vs. Alberto Del Rio vs. Chris Jericho

Nick G. – SHAYMOOSE.

Evan O. – SHEAMUS.

Josh B. – SHEAMUS.

Dave S. – SHEAMUS, this is a rather random grouping so I see no reason for the champ to walk out without the Title.

Jason N. – SHEAMUS.

Anthony V. – SHEAMUS. Orton does not need the title to be over and Del Rio is not ready (not even close). Jericho would be a good pick to set up a “Best of the Best” Summerslam match with Punk. But Sheamus holds the belt for one more month.

Jose M. – N/A.

Matt O. – RANDY ORTON.

Greg M. – SHEAMUS. Nice way to set the platter for the summer challengers. Here’s hoping they actually hold to the roles they’ve established, instead of just running a meaningless spotfest.

Darragh O. – SHEAMUS.

Grash – SHEAMUS.

Mike T. – SHEAMUS.

Wade B. – I’m interested to see how they shuffle the three challengers around after this match, but when Sheamus loses the title it’ll be in a 1-on-1 match, not a 4-way. SHEAMUS retains the title.

CONSENSUS: SHEAMUS with 11 members predicting him as the winner (Randy Orton receive one vote of confidence). The staff predicts that Jericho and Del Rio will not win the title so it will be decided by a couple babyfaces. The staff is very confident that the champion will retain the title.

Singles Match for the WWE World Championship
CM Punk (c) vs. Daniel Bryan

Nick G. – PUNK.

Evan O. – CM PUNK.

Josh B. – PUNK.

Dave S. – CM PUNK, gotta stick with my Champ retaining motif even if it isn’t working so far in the predictions this year. I’m nothing if not a stalwart.

Jason N. – DANIEL BRYAN.

Anthony V. – PUNK. My pick for match of the night. If the WWE allows, it could be match of the year.

Jose M. – N/A.

Matt O. – CM PUNK.

Greg M. – CM PUNK. After tricking myself into picking Bryan to win at Wrestlemania, against both my heart & most of my head, I’m not making that mistake again. This YES thing is going to fizzle out for him so fast; he won’t know what hit him until he’s back in the midcard, where he belongs. Deal with it.

Darragh O. – CM PUNK.

Grash – BRYAN.

Mike T. – CM PUNK.

Wade B. – I think AJ goes full-on psycho stalker ex-girlfriend here and costs Bryan the match. Probably by boiling his rabbit at ringside. “I won’t be ignored, Daniel!!!” PUNK retains the title.

CONSENSUS: CM PUNK 10-2. The rivalry continues between these two foes. From the independents to the big stage, they never disappoint. In the end, the vast majority of the staff predict that Punk retains.
