New addition to USA Network lineup renews SmackDown speculation

With a new USA Network original series on the horizon, speculation has renewed on when WWE SmackDown may return to two hours.

Despite recent reports that the network has “no plans” on moving the show away from a three-hour format anytime soon, a trailer for The Rainmaker reveals that the series will premiere on August 15 at 10:00 PM Eastern and Pacific time.

Speculation on the changes in SmackDown’s runtime stem from comments made by Paul “Triple H” Levesque that the show would revert to a two-hour format some time in the future, with many initially pointing to the beginning of June on the switch.

WWE has not made a statement on any such changes as of this writing.
