The Rock calls Final Boss character ‘the greatest heel’ in wrestling

The new docuseries WWE: Unreal has launched, with episode four focusing on the road to WrestleMania 40.

The episode opens with The Rock describing his Final Boss character, a heel turn for the former WWE Champion that saw him directly oppose Cody Rhodes and his path to the Undisputed WWE Championship.

The Final Boss, the greatest heel professional wrestling has seen. Insurmountable antagonist. There’s nothing The Final Boss can’t do. There’s nothing that The Final Boss can’t say. Becoming this new version has been the most gratifying decision that I’ve ever made.

On a rocky road that saw the course change behind the scenes and live on air a number of times, night one of WrestleMania 40 saw Rock team with Roman Reigns to face Rhodes and Seth Rollins, before getting involved in the championship bout on night two.

The path taken for this character led to some heated moments on television, including the night Rock beat down Cody on RAW which later saw addressed on social media in a manner blurring the lines of reality and what is “scripted.”

Rock’s involvement in WWE has come under fire more recently, last making an in-ring appearance at Elimination Chamber to help facilitate John Cena’s own heel turn.

WWE: Unreal is currently streaming on Netflix.
