Joe Tessitore made an appearance on ESPN’s First Take to promote WrestleMania 42, in a conversation that turned to host Stephen A. Smith praising Pat McAfee for his work in WWE.
The former NBA reporter revealed that WWE President Nick Khan once offered a role similar to McAfee’s, admitting his reluctance to get as physical:
Listen, I love it. And I want to applaud Pat McAfee for that. I go back to the old days, the Bobby ‘The Brain’ Heenans and people like that. I love cats that are heels. I actually wanted to do that, your man Nick Khan talked to me about that.
The difference is, I’m not as courageous as Pat McAfee. I ain’t trying to get hit by one of them big boys — at all. I don’t want no parts of it. But I love that stuff, because I think the sport needs it.
WrestleMania 42 will see the first hour of each night simulcast on the ESPN networks (ESPN 2 on April 18 and ESPN on April 19), with the full event streaming live on the ESPN app in the United States and Netflix for international fans.
The show emanates from Allegiant Stadium in Paradise (Las Vegas), Nevada on April 18 and April 19.
