WWE has signed independent wrestling stand-out El Generico to a deal. It is said that once Generico did not sign a deal with Ring of Honor last year, his goal was to get into WWE.
One of the reasons WWE signed Generico is because he can speak many different languages and he would be handy for many international markets. Also, it is said that Generico’s signing is a move made by Triple H and is part of a bigger plan as WWE has many names from the independent scene on their radar, so it is expected that there could be more signings to come as long as the talent passes all their necessary medical exams.
Generico has more one date on his independent schedule as today, Pro Wrestling Guerrilla announced Generico would be back on for their annual DDT4 show this Friday, teaming with his former partner and recent rival, Kevin Steen in the company’s annual one night tag team tournament. PWG had a few weeks prior, removed Generico from the card due to “injury”.
In recent months, Generico has finished up dates with Dragon Gate USA & EVOLVE on the December 8th EVOLVE iPPV, he dropped his DDT title in Japan to Kenny Omega on December 23rd and he wrestled his final match for CHIKARA on November 11th.
Generico finally has since made his final appearance for ROH last month at the Final Battle iPPV in New York City against Kevin Steen in a Ladder War, which could be their last ever match against each other.
