WWE Smackdown tapings for August 23, 2013:
– In-ring segment with WWE Champion Randy Orton, introduced by Smackdown GM Vickie Guerrero. Orton says he is a true role model. He did not know that Triple H would screw Daniel Bryan at Summerslam. He didn’t need anyone’s help on RAW. Orton asked for the fans support, which got a “NO” chant. Orton proclaimed he is the face of WWE. Daniel Bryan came out and ripped on Orton, calling him arrogant. Bryan asked for a rematch with Orton tonight. Orton said Bryan would have to wait until Night of Champions. Orton went for the RKO, but Bryan slipped out and dropkicked Orton, sending him retreating to the outside.
* Backstage segment with Smackdown GM Vickie Guerrero. Bryan vs. Wade Barrett in a Steel Cage was made for the main event.
1. WWE Intercontinental Champion Curtis Axel w/Paul Heyman def. Cody Rhodes
* Afterwards Heyman & Axel cut a promo about CM Punk. Axel challenged Punk to a match on RAW Monday and said he would put the Intercontinental Title on the line.
2. Dolph Ziggler def. Big E. Langston w/AJ Lee
3. WWE World Heavyweight Champion Alberto Del Rio def. Christian
* Afterwards, Del Rio cut a promo saying the Latino community should worship him. Ricardo Rodriguez came out and introduced Rob Van Dam. Christian nailed Del Rio with a missile dropkick, then Van Dam hit Del Rio with the Five-Star Frog Splash.
4. The Big Show & Mark Henry def. 3MB in a 2-3 Handicap Match.
* The Shield cut a promo on Show & Henry on the Titantron afterwards.
5. Darren Young def. Antonio Cesaro
6. Daniel Bryan def. Wade Barrett in a Steel Cage Match
* Afterwards, Bryan left the cage, but was attacked by Orton, who was hiding underneath the ring. Orton stood over Bryan to close the show.
