We see the usual intro, then Renee Young welcomes us to this special “NXT Rewind” edition of the show, looking at the year that was 2013 in NXT. Renee mentions the opening of the WWE Performance Center this past July. We see video from the grand opening of the WWE Performance Center.
We go to video of current WWE superstars who started down in NXT. The video features The Wyatt Family, The Shield, Fandango, Xavier Woods, Damien Sandow, Antonio Cesaro and Big E. Langston.
We go to a promo from Big E. Langston. Big E says that the past year has been a whirlwind experience. I went from being just a guy to the master of the five count to your NXT Champion to making my WWE debut and then my very first Wrestlemania appearance and now, your Intercontinental Champion. And honsetly, I couldn’t have done it without the support of the NXT Universe, without the maniacal five count chants. So, I want to take this time to say thank you and I want to let you all know that this is just the beginning.
We go to a promo from Antonio Cesaro. Cesaro says that out of that small crop of world-class technical wrestlers that I admired, William Regal was the only one I ever truly respected. Your ruthlessness and your evil genius was an inspiration for my whole career. I was so happy when you reached out and helped me get my job here in the WWE and I truly thank you for that. But, just because you did that and you got to know me very well, you know and you always knew that this day was gonna come, the day where there is only room for one of us. And that’s the younger, that’s the stronger and that’s the far, far better man.
This year, NXT has crowned many champions, including creating 2 brand new championships. We go to video highlighting the finals of the tournament to crown the first NXT Tag Team Champions which saw British Ambition of Adrian Neville and Oliver Grey defeat the Wyatt Family to become the first champions.
Also this year, the NXT Women’s Title was created. We go to video highlighting the finals of the tournament to crown the first NXT Women’s Champion as Paige defeated Emma to become the first champion.
Backstage, Devin Taylor interviews NXT Women’s Champion Paige. Paige says that Emma will still be just a dancer to her, but the difference is that now, she has my respect because not only does she know her dance moves outside the ring, but she knows some dance moves inside the ring and she gave me one of my hardest fought victories in the WWE and for that I am thankful, but I still hate her. But this title right here proves that I am the best NXT Women’s WRESTLER, because that’s exactly what I am, a wrestler. But I want more, so this is a message to all you Divas, even you AJ. This is a promise because sooner, rather than later, I will be the most dominant anti-Diva to ever walk through the WWE. I will make history as a wrestler.
Paige walks off, but then NXT Champion Bo Dallas walks in, saying there is no need to introduce him. I know you want to hear all about the hardships I endured, me fighting my way through the battle royal to earn the #1 contendership and then defying all odds and defeat the unbeatable NXT Champion Big E. Langston and shock the world, but what I need to talk about is all my “Bo-lievers” and how important it is to “bo-lieve” in yourself and more importantly, “bo-lieve” in me and the moment in history that made this possible, the moment in history that made me the man I am today, not only NXT Champion, but a champion of life and the moment that gave everybody to “bo-lieve”.” We see video of when Bo Dallas defeated Big E. Langston to become NXT Champion.
We see a promo from the Wyatt Family. Bray Wyatt says that this world is defined by the brave men and women that are willing to stand for a cause. Our crusades began at a place called NXT and our short reign, I assure you, there was not one man, woman, or child that didn’t recognize the name Wyatt. We reigned like kings, based on one principle, down with the machine. And we took our efforts to the WWE, with that same promise in mind. We have defiled monsters, we have turned heroes into victims, all for a cause that began in NXT, down with the machine.
We see video on the new stars of NXT and future stars of WWE. The video features Aiden English, Mojo Rawley, Bayley, Tyler Breeze, Alexander Rusev, Sasha Banks, Corey Graves and Sami Zayn.
We see videos on the WWE stars and legends who have made appearances in NXT. The video features Christian, The Bella Twins, Santino Marella, Paul Heyman, Mark Henry, Dolph Ziggler, John Cena, The Big Show, Sheamus, Randy Orton, Chris Jericho, AJ Lee, Ric Flair and Shawn Michaels.
We go to a promo from William Regal. Regal says that he is the late autumn of his 30-year career and recently I’ve been pondering over the legacy of William Regal, what’s it all been about. I’m a vicious and sadistic and spiteful fighter. I’ve been a unique entertainer. I never acheived the one thing I wanted to acheive most, becoming World Heavyweight Champion. But that’s my fault because I have a wonderful knack of getting myself in a lot of trouble. But to the people who really know, I’ve been a second-to-none, world class technical wrestler, that wasn’t until Antonio Cesaro came along. Because I know, even on my best day, he’s 10 times the man and wrestler that I’ve ever been. And he knows that and that’s what this is really all about. He has an intense desire to prove it and I truly commend him for it. I’m going into this match, knowing that the only chance I’ve got of winning, much less surviving, is a miracle. And that’s not coming to a faithless, old villain like myself. I’m not worried or scared of my plight, in fact, I’m relishing the thought. I’m gonna compete with every drop of vile and venom that I got left and if this is the end, well I honestly can’t think of a more noble way to go than be beaten by the ultimate competitor.
We go to a promo from the Shield. Dean Ambrose says that in 2013, the Shield proved to be the most dominant unit in sports-entertainment. We proved that by winning matches, winning championships, but we’ve also proven to be the most destructive unit, the most destructive force in sports-entertainment. We proved that by destroying every superstar, from the Undertaker to the Rock to John Cena. And destroying is something we do very well. But before we destroyed it, we created it. We built NXT. Seth Rollins says it was the Shield’s 2013 that paved the way for the boys and girls who are gonna come up here and be our next victims. Adrian Neville, Sami Zayn, Bo Dallas, the Ascension, Corey Graves of the world. Roman Reigns says that when and if you make it to the big show, remember one thing, we own this yard and we’re not giving it up anytime soon. Believe that and believe in the Shield!
We go to video highlighting what was named the 2013 NXT Match of the Year, the 2/3 falls match between Sami Zayn and Antonio Cesaro.
Backstage, Devin Taylor interviews Sami Zayn. Zayn says facing Cesaro was very difficult, he is a beast. I came to NXT with a lot to prove and its a pretty big deal to be mentioned in the same breath as this “match of the year” term, that’s a big thing, especially here in NXT, where there have been countless great matches. It bothered me that I came up short on that match and maybe that’s why it will never fully be over between me and Cesaro, but my focus now is the NXT Title, my focus is Bo Dallas. Presently, I’m dealing with a roadblock named Leo Kruger and I plan on taking care of that. In fact, all this talk of 2/3 falls has me thinking. Sami Zayn vs. Leo Kruger, 2/3 falls, next week. Let’s start the new year off with a bang.
We go to the commentary table before our main event of Antonio Cesaro against William Regal. Commentators are Tom Phillips, Byron Saxton and Tensai. Howard Finkel will once again do the ring announcing for the main event.
