WWE PPV buyrates for early 2009

With the release of WWE’s 2009 first quarter earnings, some new numbers have been released regarding some recent WWE Pay Per View events in January and February.

The 2009 WWE Royal Rumble PPV on January 25 drew an estimated 450,000 buys featuring the 30 man Royal Rumble, Jeff Hardy vs. Edge for the WWE Championship and John Cena vs. JBL for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. In comparison, last year’s Royal Rumble PPV in 2008 drew an estimated 533,000 buys featuring the 30 Man Royal Rumble, Edge vs. Rey Mysterio for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship and Randy Orton vs. Jeff Hardy for the WWE Championship.

The 2009 WWE No Way Out PPV on February 15 drew 272,000 buys featuring two Elimination Chamber matches with the WWE and World Heavyweight Championships up for grabs, Randy Orton vs. Shane McMahon and Shawn Michaels vs. JBL. In comparison, last year’s No Way Out PPV in 2008 drew 329,000 buys featuring two Elimination Chamber matches to determine #1 contenders, Edge vs. Rey Mysterio for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship and Randy Orton vs. John Cena for the WWE Championship.
