Rusev is featuring an interview with WWE star Rusev where he talks about the popularity of “Rusev Day” in the company and how it was planned as a one-time deal.

“I had no idea this was going to happen. This was supposed to be a one-time ‘Rusev Day’ thing. I never thought in a million years it was going to be what it is today. It was something we planned to do, but just for one day. But it just caught on fire ever since then. Nobody expected that.”

Rusev also talked about breaking out of the foreigner bad guy presentation.

“By far it’s the most fun I’ve had in my career. I mean, I loved WrestleMania 31 with the tank — that was amazing, of course. But now I’m showing everybody that you don’t have to be stuck being a foreigner bad guy. Being a foreigner bad guy doesn’t have to be my destiny, and I can be much more than that.”

  1. I STILL can’t believe something as ridiculous as Rusev Day was able to get over with the fans. Even if Rusev never becomes WWE Champion, they should at least book him strong and win a few more titles.

  2. I am not amazed that’s the culture of wrestling today and sadly WWE fans are idiots. In the WWE all you need is a catchphrase or some stupid line and the idiotic fans will go ape Sh*t and get you over. Every WWE top wrestler has some stupid phrase/slogan/music theme

  3. Hasn’t it always been that way in North American mainstream wrestling? Broken Universe (TNA), Perry Saturn’s Mop, Snow’s Head (ECW) and countless other examples in ECW, Fandango’s dance, the Too Cool stuff, koko’s Bird and all 80’s wrestling characters and catch phrases, Disco Inferno (WCW), some Young Buck’s stuff (ROH), The Man-up stuff (ROH), everything New Day does, etc. etc.

  4. I’m glad someone said that, I mean, let’s be honest, pretty much everything that’s been said in this topic could be said about everyone that has ever been popular for their character, up to and including The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin and going all the way back to Hulk Hogan and Ultimate Warrior.
