Battleground Pre-Show

Kick-Off Match, Battle for the Crown: “King What’s Up” R-Truth vs. King Barrett

Barrett takes control early. Truth fights back, avalanche in corner gets 2. Barrett comes back with back clubs, then taunts the crowd. Truth does some thrusting to taunt Barrett, wheelbarrow victory roll gets 2. Dropkick sends Barrett outside. Slingshot plancha by Truth wipes out Barrett! Back in, Barrett hot-shots Truth across the top rope, hits a big boot for 2. Barrett again taunts the crowd as we take a quick break.

Commercial

Back from break as Barrett with a seated surfboard into a chinlock on Truth. Truth fights out, sidesteps a backdrop, but Barrett with a back elbow for 2. Muay Thai Knees in the ropes by Barrett, followed by another big boot. Barrett gets another 2. Series of shots to the ribs by Barrett in the corner, but Truth avoids another big boot and Barrett gets crotched in the ropes. Truth with two clotheslines and a 2nd Rope Missile Dropkick for 2. Barrett avoids the Scissors Kick, Truth slips out of Wasteland, hits a Leg Lariat, then this time hits the Scissors Kick for a close 2. Barrett slips out of a suplex, Winds of Change gets Barrett now a close 2. Barrett fixes his elbow pad for the Royal Bullhammer and goes for it, but Truth avoids it and rolls up Barrett for 2. Truth goes for the What’s Up, but Barrett holds onto the ropes.

Opening video package plays hyping tonight’s big matches and talking about coliseums, justice and battlegrounds. Commentary welcomes us to the show. We go to the opening match.

Grudge Match #1: “The Celtic Warrior” Sheamus vs. “The Apex Predator” Randy Orton

We see video from last month on RAW when Sheamus & Kane defeated Orton in a Handicap Match, then Orton getting his revenge on Sheamus two weeks ago on RAW. Hometown crowd chants for Orton as the bell sounds. Sheamus rolls outside to stall early. Commentary talks about Sheamus’ recent nose ring, leading the crowd to chant “You look stupid.” Sheamus with a shoulder tackle, then Orton with one of his own, sending Sheamus back outside. Orton goes out after Sheamus and they brawl at ringside. Orton sends Sheamus HARD into the barricade as the ref begins his 10 count. They get back in, but Sheamus rolls back outside. Orton greets him with a clothesline. Back in, they exchange uppercuts, Orton gets the advantage with a flurry of them. Orton sidesteps a backdrop, but then Sheamus catches him with the Irish Curse.

Sheamus clutches his ribs as he hits Orton with two more Irish Curses to Orton to take control. Sheamus taunts the crowd, yelling “Are you not entertained?” Crowd chants “RKO” in the “New Day Sucks” beat to will on Orton. Orton fights back, but Sheamus with a Kitchen Sink and a 2nd Rope Knee Drop for 2. Chinlock applied. Orton tries to get to his feet, but Sheamus drives him back down. Running kneedrop gets another 2. Back to the chinlock, crowd wills on their hometown boy. Orton avoids a corner charge, Sheamus goes shoulder-first into the ringpost! Ref begins his 10 count, Sheamus gets back in.

Strike exchange from their knees, then on their feet. Sheamus gains advantage, but then Orton with a big uppercut and a clothesline. Another clothesline, Sheamus misses one, but sees the snap slam coming by holding onto the ropes. Orton slips off Sheamus’s back, clotheslines him onto the apron. Sheamus pulls Orton outside, they brawl some more. Sheamus misses a right hand, BACK SUPLEX BY ORTON ONTO THE ANNOUNCE TABLE!! Back in, Orton avoids the Brogue Kick, this time hits the Snap Slam for 2. Orton goes for the IED DDT, but Sheamus blocks it. Sheamus grabs Orton from the apron for the Beats of the Bodrhian, but Orton now blocks it. Sheamus hot-shots Orton across the top rope, then hits the Finlay Roll and a Front Powerslam for another 2. Sheamus calls for the end and goes again for the Brogue Kick, but Orton again avoids it. Sheamus slips out of the RKO, Orton fights out of the Cloverleaf. Orton charges, but Sheamus catches him with White Noise for a close 2. More uppercuts by Sheamus, Orton sidesteps a backdrop, slams Sheamus’s head into the mat, T-Bone by Orton gets 2. Orton with shots to Sheamus in the corner, but Sheamus drops him across the top turnbuckle. Sheamus heads up top, but Orton stops him. Orton heads up with Sheamus, hits his father Bob Orton Jr.’s famous Top Rope Superplex for another close 2. Orton this time hits the IED DDT and begins to starts going to that dark place in his mind, measuring Sheamus for the RKO. Orton goes for it, but Sheamus rolls him up for 2. BROGUE KICK!! However, Sheamus can’t make the cover right away as he’s exhausted. Sheamus crawls over to Orton and tries to drag him to the center. Sheamus this time locks Orton in the Cloverleaf. Orton tries to crawl to the ropes, but Sheamus pulls him back to the center as Orton got a fingertip on the bottom rope. Orton muscles up again to try and reach the ropes and finally does so, forcing Sheamus to break the hold.

Sheamus lifts up Orton, RKO OUTTA NOWHERE!!! 1-2-3!

Winner: “The Apex Predator” Randy Orton by pinfall (RKO)

We see video from last Monday’s RAW when Becky Lynch, Charlotte and Sasha Banks from NXT debuted in the battle against Team Bella and the team of Naomi and Tamina Snuka.

Backstage, JoJo interviews WWE Principal Owner Stephanie McMahon about the NXT Divas debuting on RAW. Stephanie talks about the history of great wrestling in St. Louis and says they will see no different. She says she has asked each of the three Diva teams to pick a representative and they will face off in a Triple Threat Match tonight.

WWE Tag Team Titles: The New Day (Big E & Kofi Kingston) w/Xavier Woods vs. The Prime-Time Players (“Mr. No Days Off” Darren Young & “The Big Deal” Titus O’Neil) (c’s)

New Day cuts a promo before the bell talking about the power of positivity and that they will beat the Prime-Time Players tonight to regain their Tag Titles.

Young & Kofi start as Xavier yells at commentary. Chain wrestling early, stalemate. Young with a clothesline and a running swinging neckbreaker. Northern Lights gets a 1 count. Titus in, PTP with a double shoulder tackle. Kofi slips out of a slam, paintbrushes Titus in the back of the head. Titus grabs Kofi, HUGE overhand chops against the ropes. Crowd wants one more chop as Xavier begs off at ringside, Titus obliges. New Day regroups on the outside, wanting a timeout. Back in, Big E tags in. Titus goes up & over Big E in the corner, big slam and a legdrop. Young in, standing gourdbuster/splash combo by PTP. Big E sends Young flying over the turnbuckles and to the outside as Xavier taunts Young.

Big E sends Young into a running PK by Kofi on the apron. Back in, Kofi gets 2. New Day begins making frequent tags working over Young in the corner as Xavier yells out in enjoyment. Kofi gets another 2. Chinlock applied, crowd wills on Young. Young fights out with headbutts, but Kofi goes outside to trip him up. Big E tags in, RUNNING BIG SPLASH TO YOUNG ON THE APRON!! Back in, Big E gets another 2. Abdominal Stretch applied, Young fights out, but Big E with a back elbow for another 2. Xavier yells out about “Tricep Meat”. Young slips out of a slam, avoids a corner charge, then hits Big E with an enziguri, both men down.

Titus & Kofi tag in. Shoulder tackle by Titus to Kofi, avalanche to Big E, another clothesline to Kofi, then one to Big E, sending him outside. Two Backbreakers by Titus, then whirly-birds Kofi across the ring. Avalanche by Titus in the corner, but Xavier swipes at his foot with the ref distracted. Leaping DDT by Kofi gets a close 2. Xavier yells out that they should be champions. Kofi leaps off the top, but Titus nails him on the way down. Young in, Overhead Belly-to-Belly to Kofi. Shot to Big E, Back Suplex to Xavier on the apron! Young stops a charging Kofi, but Kofi catches him with a side kick. Big E in, Young slips out of the Big Ending, Big E goes shoulder-first into the ringpost. Kofi misses Trouble in Paradise, Young hits him with the Gutcheck, sending Kofi outside.

Titus tags in, Clash of the Titus gets PTP the win.

Winners and STILL WWE Tag Team Champions: The Prime-Time Players by pinfall (Clash of the Titus)

PTP celebrate their title retention while New Day has a temper tantrum in the ring about the loss.

Backstage, Paige meets with her team of Charlotte and Becky Lynch. Paige says tonight is the start of a Revolution. Lynch says that tonight, let’s rebuild the division brick-by-brick. Charlotte says they will do it with Flair.

Grudge Match #2: “The New Face of Fear” Bray Wyatt vs. “The Powerhouse” Roman Reigns

Reigns with a shoulder tackle early. Wyatt with a big right hand and a headbutt. Wyatt works over Reigns in the corner, taunts the crowd. Reigns throws Wyatt into the corner, works him over now. Wyatt shoves Reigns off, but runs into a big right hand, sending him outside. Reigns goes after Wyatt, but Wyatt with another big right hand. Back in, Wyatt with a clothesline. Reigns goes off Wyatt’s blind side, nails him with a clothesline, sending Wyatt back outside. Reigns goes out after him, sends Wyatt into the barricade. Back in, Wyatt greets Reigns with a boot to the face, but Reigns with forearm shots. Wyatt misses a clothesline, but hits the flying torpedo attack. Wyatt chokes Reigns in the ropes, taunting the crowd some more. Wyatt works over Reigns again in the corner, but Reigns comes back with a corner clothesline, followed by a short-arm clothesline. Wyatt avoids a flying clothesline, but Reigns with a Samoan Drop that sends Wyatt back outside. Reigns goes out on the other side of the ring, then runs across ringside to charge at Wyatt, but Wyatt sidesteps him and Reigns goes shoulder-first into the steel steps! Back in, Wyatt stalks Reigns, then charges and hits a big running avalanche in the corner. Wyatt taunts the crowd again from the turnbuckles, then hits more shots on Reigns in the corner. Reigns grabs Wyatt from the ropes, but Wyatt fights out of a powerbomb and sends Reigns outside. They fight on the apron, Reigns with a series of jabs, but then Wyatt DDTs REIGNS ON THE APRON!!! Ref begins his 10 count as Wyatt again taunts the crowd. Back in, Wyatt with a snap suplex and a running back senton for 2. Chinlock applied, crowd wills on Reigns. Reigns gets to his feet, but Wyatt drives him back down and re-applies the chinlock. Reigns begins to fade, but then gets some fight back inside him. Reigns tries to power out, but Wyatt stops him. Wyatt goes for a Sleeper, but Reigns counters with a back suplex, both men down.

Reigns fights back with kicks, a clothesline and a flying clothesline. Two Pumphandle Suplexes by Reigns, then goes outside for the Drive-By Kick, but Wyatt catches him coming in with a clothesline! Wyatt gets a head of steam, running back senton on the outside! Back in, Wyatt gets a close 2. Another big right hand by Wyatt, then they head up top. Headbutts by Wyatt, but Reigns blocks a superplex. Reigns with a headbutt, then goes underneath Wyatt and brings him out of the corner with a Sit-Out Powerbomb for 2. Reigns locks and loads for the Superman Punch, but Wyatt catches him. Wyatt goes for the Standing Urnangi, but Reigns slips out and sends Wyatt onto the apron. Reigns goes outside and this time hits the Drive-By Kick. Back in, Reigns goes for another flying clothesline, but Wyatt catches him and this time hits the Standing Urnangi for a close 2. Wyatt with right hands from the mount, then catches Reigns off the blind-side. Wyatt goes for Sister Abigail, but Reigns counters with a roll-up for 2. SUPERMAN PUNCH!! 1-2…WYATT KICKS OUT!! Both men down again. Dueling chants by the crowd.

Reigns fires up and lets out the battle cry, calling for the Spear, but Wyatt catches him coming in with a boot. Reigns fires up again and charges, but Wyatt with a LARIAT-O for another close 2. Wyatt pops up and does the Crab Walk, then measures Reigns and goes again for Sister Abigail. Wyatt gives the kiss to the forehead, but Reigns powers out and unloads with multiple headbutts and clothesline shots to Wyatt in the corner! Reigns lifts up Wyatt and hits a Samoan Drop, Wyatt rolls outside. Reigns goes out after him, but Wyatt greets him with another big right hand, then sends Reigns into the barricade. Reigns sent back in, then Wyatt grabs two chairs from the timekeepers’ area. Reigns stops him with a big right hand. Now Reigns grabs the chairs and throws them into the ring, then grabs two more chairs and throws them into the ring also. All of a sudden, a hooded man comes out from the crowd and superkicks Reigns! Wyatt sends Reigns into the apron, then sends him back in.

Afterwards, the hooded man comes into the ring and reveals himself to be former Wyatt Family member, Luke Harper, seemingly back together with Wyatt. Wyatt celebrates his win by posing in the ring.

Backstage, JoJo interviews Team BAD about the Triple Threat Match tonight. Naomi menaces JoJo and says they are all on the same page. Sasha Banks says she is the Boss and if you don’t believe me, just watch me. Tamina again menaces JoJo as they walk off.

Triple Threat Match: NXT Women’s Champion “The Boss” Sasha Banks (Team BAD) vs. “The Dirtiest Diva in the Game” Charlotte (Team Paige) vs. Brie Bella (Team Bella)

Nikki feigns taking part, but instead goes outside and as Brie be the representative for Team Bella. Crowd chants “NXT” as the bell sounds. Charlotte lets out a “WOOOO!” Brie and Sasha go after Charlotte early. Charlotte gets back in, roll-up to Sasha, Brie breaks it up. Sasha wants to team up Brie against Charlotte, but suckers her in. Brie goes after Charlotte, series of standing switches until Brie sent outside. Sasha with a shot to Charlotte, mocks the “WOOOO!” Charlotte does the Flair Flip onto the apron, but Brie pulls her down outside. Thesz Press by Brie to Sasha, but misses a corner charge. Sasha catches Brie’s feet in the corner and drapes her across the ropes. Charlotte comes in, but Sasha stops her and drapes her across the bottom rope. DOUBLE KNEES TO BOTH BRIE AND CHARLOTTE!! Sasha gets 2. “Like a Boss” chants by the crowd. Sasha chokes Charlotte in the corner and kicks at her. Sasha stomps away at Charlotte, then kicks at Brie. Sasha gets another 2 on Charlotte. Sasha mocks the Flair Strut, but Charlotte avoids a slap, roll-up gets 2. Sasha with a Tilt-a-Whirl into a Hair Pull Takedown for another 2. Sasha with a big right hand to Brie, then hits Shotgun Knees to Charlotte twice in the corner, but Brie breaks up the pin. Sasha & Brie trash talk as they exchange strikes. Charlotte then with a double clothesline to them. Chops to both women, swinging neckbreaker across the knee to brie, Suplex into a Hangman’s Neckbreaker to Sasha, Charlotte kips up. Big Boot to Sasha, Brie breaks up the pin. Charlotte misses a clothesline, Brie with two flying clotheslines and a dropkick. Double Running Bulldog by Brie, gets 2 on Sasha. Brie covers Charlotte, gets 2 again. Brie with Daniel Bryan-style chest kicks to Sasha and Charlotte, but Sasha avoids one and hits a forearm. Sasha avoids Charlotte, Charlotte Spears Brie outside. Wheelbarrow Victory Roll by Sasha to Charlotte for 2. Charlotte blocks a backslide, but Sasha hits the Bank Roll for a close 2. Brie heads up top, Brie Mode missile dropkick takes out Sasha and Charlotte! Brie yells out “Brie Mode” and hits the running knee strikes one after the other to Sasha and Charlotte against the ropes! Sasha avoids another knee, sends Brie outside! Team Bella checks on Brie, but Team BAD and Team Paige surround them. Sasha dropkicks Brie off the apron, wiping out Team Bella in the process! Sasha with a head of steam, TOPE SUICIDA WIPES OUT TEAM PAIGE!! Charlotte sees Team BAD helping out Sasha, SLINGSHOT PLANCHA WIPES OUT TEAM BAD, EVERYONE’S DOWN!!! Charlotte sends Brie back in, then sets her up top. Big forearm shot, then Charlotte heads up top, but Sasha with the Lungblower into the Bank Statement! Brie comes in and sends Sasha shoulder-first into the ringpost!

Brie grabs Charlotte, but Charlotte counters the Bella Buster into the Figure Eight! BRIE TAPS!!!

Owens yells during his entrance, “We know the act, we’ve seen it for ten years, get out here” at Cena. Pre-match intros for this match.

Dueling chants by the crowd as the bell sounds. Owens catches Cena off a leapfrog with a big right hand early. Owens works over Cena as we see replay of the right hand. Strike exchange, but then Owens with a dropkick and taunts the crowd. Owens sends Cena bouncing off the turnbuckles, then trash talks the crowd. Cena sent sternum-first into the turnbuckles, then Owens with a Hercules Cutter for 2. Owens yells, “Is that your hero?” at the crowd. Cena avoids another right hand, running shoulder tackle, but Owens catches Cena in mid-air off the second tackle with a front slam and a leaping back senton for another 2. Cena comes back with a dropkick. Owens misses a clothesline, Fallway Sit-Out Facebuster by Cena gets 2. Cena heads up top and hits the Diving Fameasser for another 2. Cena goes for the Attitude Adjustment, but Owens slips out and SPIKES Cena with a DDT for 2. More right hands by Owens, yelling at Cena to stay down as we see replay of Cena being spiked by the DDT. Cena comes back with the two running shoulder tackles and the Proto-Plex. Owens rolls outside to avoid the Five Knuckle Shuffle and mocks Cena’s “You Can’t See Me.” Owens with another big right hand, then heads up top for the Swanton, but Cena gets the knees up! Owens slips out of the Attitude Adjustment again, then does Cena’s two running shoulder tackles, Proto-Plex and the Five Knuckle Shuffle. Owens goes for the Attitude Adjustment, but Cena slips out. Cena with a Electric Chair into a Sit-Out Facebuster, then locks Owens in the STF. Owens tries to reach the ropes, but Cena pulls him back. Owens kicks him off, then catches a Cena boot and hits a Backbreaker for 2. More bad mouth by Owens to Cena as he hits more right hands. Owens goes for the Pop-Up Powerbomb, but Cena avoids it. Cena goes for the Springboard Stunner, but Owens catches him in mid-air with a release German! Cannonball in the corner by Owens gets a close 2. Owens yells at commentary, then he & Cena exchange strikes again. Cena gains advantage with leg kicks, CODE RED!!! 1-2….OWENS KICKS OUT!! Cena goes up top again for the Diving Fameasser, but Owens catches him in mid-air with a Sit-Out Powerbomb for another close 2. Cena finally hits the Attitude Adjustment! 1-2….OWENS KICKS OUT AGAIN!!! They head up top, Owens blocks a Cena superplex with the Super Swinging Fisherman’s Buster for another close 2. Cena is clutching his arm as he landed hard on it off the Super Fisherman’s Buster by Owens. Owens yells at commentary to “watch this” as he goes again for the Pop-Up Powerbomb, but Cena counters it with a rana! Owens slips out of another Attitude Adjustment with a Superkick! CENA’S OWN ATTITUDE ADJUSTMENT, STF APPLIED BY OWENS ON CENA!!! Cena crawls to the ropes and is able to reach them, forcing Owens to break. Cena goes to the middle rope, Tornado DDT SPIKES Owens for another close 2. More right hands by Owens, but misses another and Cena this time hits the Springboard Stunner, but Owens comes right back with a big clothesline! Cena then comes back with a big clothesline of his own! POP-UP POWERBOMB!!! 1-2….CENA KICKS OUT!!! “This is awesome” chants by the crowd. Owens heads back up top, but Cena stops him. Cena heads up top with Owens, SUPER ATTITUDE ADJUSTMENT!!! 1-2……OWENS KICKS OUT AGAIN!!! CENA IS IN SHOCK!!! Commentary brings up that this is the same look that Cena had when he lost to the Rock at Wrestlemania 28. Cena tries to lift up Owens, but Owens is dead weight. Owens then catches Cena in an inside cradle for 2. Cena locks Owens back in the STF! Owens tries to crawl to the ropes, but Cena pulls him back to the center.

Cena puts a lot of torque on Owens’ neck and Owens is forced to tap! WOW!

Winner and STILL WWE United States Champion: John Cena by submission (STF)

Cena celebrates his title retention afterward as Owens refuses help to the back.

Commentary talks about the Intercontinental Title match being pulled from tonight’s show due to Ryback’s staph infection injury.

The Miz’s music hits and he makes his way to the ring. Miz rips on Ryback for his injury and preventing him to win the Intercontinental Title tonight. Miz brings up that he & Ryback were on Tough Enough before and calls Ryback “The Big Pansy.” Miz calls Ryback scared to face him and he says he is the toughest man in this building right now. Miz then rips on Big Show, saying he’s been missing since the Attitude Era and if he was smart, he’d do what the crowd wants him to do and that’s retire. Miz says the Authority should do what’s best for business and crown him the new Intercontinental Champion. If not, I’ll take the title just like Los Angeles will take your Rams.

This brings out Big Show, who makes his way to the ring. Miz sucks up to Big Show now, saying they should team up to beat up Ryback. Show gets in the ring and knocks out Miz with the WMD, then quickly leaves a knocked out Miz in the ring.

Main Event for the WWE World Title: “The Beast Incarnate” Brock Lesnar w/Paul Heyman vs. “The Artichect” Seth Rollins (c)

Pre-match intros here. “Suplex City” chants by the crowd as the bell sounds. Lesnar drives Rollins into the corner and unloads with shoulders to the ribs. Rollins blocks a suplex with elbows and rolls outside to re-group. Lesnar gives chase to Rollins, but Rollins nails Lesnar coming back in. Rollins holds onto the ropes for dear life to block another suplex. Series of leg kicks by Rollins, but Lesnar catches a dropkick and stomps Rollins. Rollins slips out of the F-5, heads up top, but Lesnar catches him on the way down. Release German Suplex #1! Release German Suplex #2! Release German Suplex #3 folds up Rollins like an accordion! Release German Suplex #4! Brock does his shimmie-step to taunt Rollins. Heyman yells at Rollins, “I told you” as Lesnar hits Release German Suplex #5, sending Rollins outside! Rollins grabs his title belt and is gonna leave through the crowd, but Lesnar HURDLES THE BARRICADE AND THROWS ROLLINS BACK TO RINGSIDE!! Lesnar hands the ref the title belt, then sends Rollins back in. Release German Suplex #6! More shimmie-stepping by Lesnar, Rollins slips out of another release German, SUPERKICK!! More leg kicks by Rollins, followed by a chopblock. Three Avada Kedavras by Rollins, followed by a second superkick! Rollins goes for the Pedigree, but Lesnar blocks it. Rollins slips out of the F-5, running knee to the back sends Lesnar outside! Two Tope Suicidas by Rollins, but Lesnar gets back in before he can do a third, Overhead Belly-to-Belly, Suplex #7! German, Suplex #8, Lesnar holds on! Another German, Suplex #9, Lesnar still holds on! Release German, Suplex #10! Another release German, Suplex #11! Big slap by Lesnar, another release German folds up Rollins, Suplex #12! Rollins slaps Lesnar in defiance, another release German by Lesnar, Suplex #13! Lesnar lifts up Rollins, F-5!!! 1-2….GONG GOES OFF!! LIGHTS GO OUT!! When they come back on, THE UNDERTAKER IS IN THE RING!!! LESNAR IS IN SHOCK!!! Undertaker goes for the Chokeslam, but Lesnar slips out. Lesnar goes for the F-5, but Taker slips out and hits a low kick! Taker measures Lesnar, CHOKESLAM!! Undertaker lifts up Lesnar, TOMBSTONE!!! Taker looks at Heyman, then the fallen Lesnar, observing the carnage he’s created as the crowd chants for Undertaker. Taker goes to leave, but sees Lesnar getting back and calls for another Tombstone. Lesnar gets back up, but Taker lifts him up again, ANOTHER TOMBSTONE!!! Crowd chants “one more time” and Taker poses in the ring as the arena turns blue and Taker’s music plays. Taker finally leaves the ring and walks to the back as the credits sign us off for the show. No bell sounded, but this would appear to signal a No Contest. Taker poses with the one-arm salute at the entrance-way as the show closes.
