WWE Smackdown
November 27, 2009
Bridgeport, CT
Report by: Mike Tedesco of WrestleView.com

?Yes, sir, we promised you a great main event?? The WWE video leads us into the show.

A video hyping up the fallout of Survivor Series plays. They particularly hype up that it was the PPV that Undertaker debuted at. Nineteen years ? how about that?

The Smackdown video plays and we?re brought into the arena with no pyro. Todd Grisham and Matt Striker welcome us to the show and hype up the TLC PPV. We?ll find out who the Undertaker will face in three weeks as Batista takes on Kane with the winner going to face him at TLC.

Chris Jericho’s music hits and the Unified Tag Champion makes his way to the ring. Jericho grabs a microphone and says while we mucilaginous troglodytes attempt to digest our massive Thanksgiving dinners and recover from our tryptophan hangovers, he knows we?re waiting for December 13 when JeriShow takes on DX at TLC. Jericho says we should cheer for DX while we can because he’s counting the days down because he knows after December 13 he won?t have to deal with DX again. In a Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match it’s not about jokes or merchandise. It’s the most dangerous match ever created in WWE history ? so much so that there’s only been eight TLCs in the history of the business. Jericho says he deals with the facts and the fact is DX hasn?t been in a TLC match and he’s been in two. Jericho says he’s won and dominated in them as well as succeeded, much like he’s done with everything in his entire life. Jericho says he’s defended the tag titles in TLC because he’s a winner. Jericho says he’s a winner and DX are losers because despite their accomplishments they?ve never been Tag Team Champions. As long as Jericho is champion they never will.

Jericho says he’s the best in the world at what he does and he deserves respect which he doesn?t get. Jericho says he demands respect yet Teddy Long keeps slapping him in the face. Jericho demands to know how there’s a number one contenders match and he’s not in it. Jericho says he deserves it most as the face of Smackdown.

Theodore R. Long comes out to the stage and says Jericho seems to have it all figured out. Jericho says he does and he should get whatever he wants. Long says he’s giving Jericho what he wants. Jericho says Long has made a smart decision thinking he’s in the number one contenders match. Long says he?ll be facing Undertaker in a non-title match! Jericho looks upset as we go to commercial.

We see the Bragging Rights trophy and we see Teddy Long talking with John Morrison. Long says he put up quite an effort at Survivor Series. Morrison compares it to the movie 300. Morrison says he wants a shot against any of them (Drew McIntyre, Miz, Sheamus) one on one. Vickie Guerrero walks up and asks what Long is doing, since Mr. McMahon made her executive consultant. Guerrero reminds him he’s still on probation and says he needs her. Guerrero says she wants to nominate Eric Escobar to be John Morrison’s opponent tonight. Long says he’s not giving Escobar a title shot because he doesn?t deserve it. Guerrero says Smackdown needs him and Morrison rips on him for lowering the standards. Guerrero says she’s calling Mr. McMahon and Long caves. Long says Escobar gets a shot but it?ll be his only shot. Long says he’s not bending the rules every week for her boyfriend.

-Commercial Break-

Did you know WWE television programming is translated into 30 languages worldwide?

CM Punk’s music hits and he makes his way to the ring next to a large man in camouflage pants. They run down what happened last Friday when R-Truth dumped the garbage can full of cigarettes, pills, and whiskey on top of CM Punk. Punk says last week he extended a hand to the WWE Universe for a much needed intervention. Punk says he’s not the only one who knows that drugs and alcohol are harmful. Medical science and the Surgeon General have warned us. Punk says this is his crusade and he?ll continue it as long as there are people who need help and change in their lives.

One person he’s been helping is the man next to him ? Luke Gallows. Punk says some of us may recognize him as Festus, but that was a lifetime ago. It was a lifetime of torturous drug use and neglect, a life he?d rather forget. It started just like it does for us ? one pain killer turns into a ton. His friends and family enabled him when they thought they were helping. But Punk stepped in and helped him. Punk says it’s just the start because he?ll continue to help those who can?t help themselves.

Punk holds up the bag and says on December 1st a new drug hits the streets. It scares him because it’s a socially acceptable drug and will be available all over the world. It’s more harmful than chain smoking unfiltered cigarettes and alcohol. It’s Jeff Hardy’s DVD. Punk calls Jeff a loser who destroyed his life and career living by his rules. What makes him sick is that he didn?t just ruin his life and career ? he ruined the lives of all his fans, because he’s planted seeds of destruction in the fans who looked up to him. Punk says if we have any brain cells left then all we need to know is the last chapter is the most important. It’s a cage match between him and Jeff Hardy where he ended Jeff’s career in WWE forever. Punk says he’s the reason Jeff isn?t here. Punk says he knows it’s hard for us to deprogram our weak brains but we need to find our self-respect and just say no to the DVD.

Matt Hardy’s music hits and he makes his way to the ring. Matt says Punk comes out every week preaching to us to follow his beliefs like a cult leader. What Punk doesn?t get about Jeff is that he’s a free spirit. Sure, he has his flaws, just like everyone else (including Punk), but Punk only targeted him because he wouldn?t follow his nonsense. Punk doesn?t know anything about Jeff Hardy. Punk says what he knows is that if he listened to him and went straightedge, he?d have more of a future. Matt says if Punk came off his soapbox then maybe he wouldn?t be a FORMER straightedge champion.

Gallows picks Hardy up and Punk kicks him in the midsection. Gallows then slams Hardy sternum first into the corner and holds him there for Punk to hit his high knee. Punk elbows Hardy in the neck a bunch of times. The crowd chants for Hardy but he can?t do anything as Gallows lifts him up by his neck and slams him to the mat. Punk’s music plays and they celebrate.

Josh Mathews is backstage with Mickie James and asks what it’s like to be picked on. Mickie says it doesn?t matter because she’s not going anywhere. Bump of the Night: Batista’s beat down of Undertaker!

Match of the Night: Jericho vs. Undertaker ** ?

Mike’s Thoughts

Batista vs. Undertaker at TLC. Let’s play Hardball. Sorry ? I?m a Chris Matthews fan. I, for one, am actually excited about that Main Event. These guys have proven themselves to be an entertaining match up and I?m expecting their match at TLC to be no different. It’s definitely a cool edge to have Batista be the heel in this. I?m really liking his new character even if his match against Rey Mysterio at Survivor Series was a disappointment.

Speaking of Title matches, it seems like Jericho is inserting himself back in, something I?m extremely happy about. It’s pretty obvious that JeriShow is dropping the titles at TLC (Big Show has a bum knee) so Jericho will be solely on Smackdown and back in the title picture. Jericho rules and if Undertaker survives TLC then he?ll have an awesome title match with Jericho. If their past two Smackdown meetings are any indication then that’s a definite.

It seems like it’s back to the drawing board for Eric Escobar. He was all but buried in commentary during his match and the match itself. He didn?t really put up much of a fight. I?m happy about that. There’s nothing spectacular about him at all. At least Vickie Guerrero is free and ready to run Smackdown again!

Festus is back and he’s off pain pills. I didn?t know pain pills could make you go nuts at the sound of a bell. That’s nuts! I?m glad he’s repackaged and with CM Punk. Punk can really get him going and it’s awesome to have a big bodyguard for him.

I can?t believe there was nothing with Drew McIntyre tonight after his win at Survivor Series. Not a peep but a mere whisper of his name by John Morrison. That’s bizarre. I also can?t believe how Beth Phoenix has disappeared again. What the heck?

Final Rating: ** ?
