According to a report from Fightful Select, the closing angle of Sunday’s Main Event match at WWE Clash in Paris, has again fueled rumors and speculation about the possibility of AJ Lee making her return to WWE.
Paul Heyman was taken out by Roman Reigns after his win against Bronson Reed. Following the match, Bron Breakker and Reed attacked Roman, in which then caused Raw General Manager Adam Pearce to ban Breakker and Reed from the building. The finish of the main four-way match saw someone wearing black enter the enter the ring and low-blow on CM Punk from behind. The person then revealed themself to be Becky Lynch. Rollins then hit a stomp on Punk on a chair to get the win.
Fightful also notes that per WWE sources, Lee’s name has recently been brought up during several creative pitches. Following Lynch’s interference to aid her husband, it is being said that several within WWE are hopeful this is a tie in to Lee returning.
The report also says, “We can’t confirm an AJ Lee return is a go, but sources in WWE said there has been more traction on it of late than in previous years.” In addition, Fightful also writes notes some the pitches for Lee returning “weren’t quite shut down like they used to be.”
AJ Lee’s last match was a six-woman tag team match on the March 30, 2015 episode of Raw, where she, Paige, and Naomi defeated the Bella Twins and Natalya.
During the Clash in Paris post-show, Jackie Redmond teased AJ Lee returning, after CM Punk pointed to an AJ Lee sign from a fan.
