Another update on CM Punk’s absence and return to WWE; Note on his relationship with AEW

Fightful Select has published an update on the status of CM Punk, regarding his absence and eventual return to WWE programming.

According to multiple WWE sources, the current belief within WWE is that Punk is expected back on television next month, with a meaningful storyline that is already being mapped out heading into SummerSlam and that the direction internally is Punk to be heavily involved in the premium live event. It was added that creative plans are subject to change.

Fightful Select indicates that a potential July 6 return has circulating internally, as this is the date when Raw will take place at Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois just outside of Chicago.

As it pertains to the recent rumors regarding Punk’s status with and any perceived tension with TKO, sources indicate to Fightful Select, there has been no noticeable concern within the WWE locker room. Those the publication spoke with in WWE described that there’s not any internal talk about issues between Punk and TKO, noting that the situation appears calm behind the scenes. However, it was further said that if there is any ongoing concerns at all, they aren’t being openly discussed internally.

Wrestlevotes on Fightful Select adds that WWE is giving Punk a well-deserved break after consistently showing up to regular television shows week after week, including PLE’s.

In a separate report from Fightful Select, as it relates to Punk’s relationship with AEW, after his fallout in the company that led to his termination in September 2023, it is being said that some people in AEW believe a bridge will be rebuilt between the promotion and Punk, even if he does not work there again. It was added not everyone in AEW had issues with Punk.

When asked if Punk burned his bridge entirely in AEW, it was answered with, “Never say never.”
