The special episode of WWE NXT covering the “invasion” of TNA is now going by a new name: Showdown.
F4WOnline has reported that the change came after backlash emerged from Israeli fans due to the date (October 7), the second anniversary of the Hamas attacks in southern Israel that began the current war in Gaza.
Some also notably took umbrage with the logo using a prominent red letter ‘V’ as it “unintentionally resembles the downward-facing red triangle used as a Hamas symbol.”
The name and logo were the same used during a pay-per-view event held in 2001.
References to the old name have disappeared from both WWE and TNA websites, with social media posts using the name also missing.
Remarks on this week’s WWE NXT have further confirmed the new name, with qualifying matches to determine members on Team NXT and Team TNA for next week’s event.
