Fightful Select has reported new details surrounding the departure of Ridge Holland, whose WWE contract is set to end next month.
Holland revealed on social media that the company continuing to cover the costs of his rehabilitation after his deal ends on November 14.
Some fans online interpreted that this was a goodwill gesture from WWE, but sources have clarified that the company is obligated to pay for his medical care since the injury occurred while Holland was working a TNA event as part of the WWE-TNA talent exchange.
Had WWE not covered the costs, it likely would have opened the door for a successful legal claim on the behalf of the former NXT Tag Team Champion.
Holland reportedly did not receive any additional pay for participating in the TNA crossover.
Fightful further notes that Holland had been working under a deal that put him on “NXT money” despite having a run on the main roster; his original main roster deal was set to expire in November 2024, but the company offered a one-year extension at a reduced rate of roughly $200,000 less than his previous salary.
Within WWE there is said to be disappointment among many of the talent in the locker room over the handling of the situation, with one veteran talent reportedly commenting that this kind of treatment toward an injured performer “would have never happened pre-pandemic.”
