According to a new update from Fightful Select, Blake Monroe was reportedly injured and unhappy, following the botched finished in the Women’s North American Title Match back on the December 17 episode of NXT. At the time of Fightful Select’s report, the severity of Monroe’s injury is not known.
The finish saw Hail win the title after she landed on Monroe with a springboard backwards drop that knocked the wind out of Monroe, making her unable to kick out in time.
Fightful Select notes that people involved with Monroe’s creative side were specifically not happy with how the match ended and then quickly followed up by with the decision to have rematch for the championship.
Referee Felix Fernandez was said to have received praise backstage in how he handled the situation. However, sources close to Fightful, noted there was actual heat on Fernandez for not checking on Monroe after she got hurt. It has also been claimed Shawn Michaels, Matt Bloom and other referees communicated to Fernandez and noted that he handled everything correctly.
A rematch is scheduled to take place at the NXT New Year’s Evil Special on January 6, 2026.
