Barry Blaustein, the filmmaker behind the pro wrestling documentary Beyond The Mat, has passed away at the age of 71 per The Hollywood Reporter.
Blaustein’s career included a decades-long collaboration with Eddie Murphy from the the television series Saturday Night Live to the Coming to America and Nutty Professor films.
His work on Beyond the Mat saw Blaustein acting as writer, director, producer, and narrator on a journey inside the World Wrestling Federation and Extreme Championship Wrestling, and was nominated by the Director’s Guild Association for best documentary and best director after the film’s release in 1999.
