As first reported by Bodyslam.net and then F4WOnline, Tommaso Ciampa is expected to leave WWE once his contract expires, which is said to be soon. It was also said Ciampa “plans on finishing his time up with the company without a renewal.”
It is not known if the 40-year old Ciampa is expected to sign with another promotion or take time off from wrestling. Ciampa’s tag team partner Johnny Gargano is expected to continue as a singles competitor on SmackDown.
Ciampa last wrestled since a December 15 SmackDown television taping in Hershey, PA. The match, which aired on December 19, saw Ciampa and Gargano lose a tag team match to Ilja Dragunov and Carmelo Hayes.
Ciampa is a two-time NXT Champion, a two-time WWE tag champion and one-time NXT tag champion with Gargano. He is also a one-time ROH World Television Champion.
