According to an exclusive report from Insider Gaming, layoffs at Visual Concepts appear to have hit the WWE development team more than those working on NBA 2K.
Insider Gaming notes they have learned layoffs were company-wide, as the teams working on WWE games have been hit the hardest. It was added this includes both the main WWE 2K team and those who worked on the WWE 2K25: Netflix Edition.
Multiple sources told Insider Gaming that the number of layoffs were not significant, but that no one was comfortable providing an actual number for fear of providing inaccurate data.
The report also addressed the WWE 2K25: Netflix Edition, noting that despite it performing well in terms of downloads and reviews, sources within Netflix told Insider Gaming those in charge felt it didn’t “meet expectations”. One source bluntly told the publication that, “They expected it to be something it was never designed to be: a mobile game.”
Furthermore, sources also said that despite promises from management at Take-Two, painting a rosy picture of everything being fine, that wasn’t truly the case, with another source saying, “leadership lied the whole time, saying the game was fine and great.
Insider Gaming concluded by saying that after the release of the WWE 2K25: Netflix Edition, Netflix opted not to renew its deal for Netflix Editions of WWE 2K26 or WWE 2K27, which then left an entire team without projects moving forward.
Insider Gaming reached out to Netflix and Take-Two for comment, but did not receive responses before the report was published.
