Penta defeated Dominik Mysterio on Monday’s WWE Raw to become the new Intercontinental Champion.
The finish saw Mysterio telling JD McDonagh to get the ring bell hammer. However, Finn Bálor took away the hammer, saying that Mysterio had mentioned he wants to do this by himself. Penta then took out Bálor and McDonagh and went for a Mexican Destroyer, but Mysterio dropped him into position. Penta avoided a 619 by Mysterio and hit a Mexican Destroyer on Mysterio to get the pin.
Shortly before the match, there was a backstage segment with Adam Pearce, Danhausen, Mysterio and McDonagh. Danhausen told Mysterio that he wanted one of Mystero’s titles, but Mysterio told him that is as close as he will ever get and then told him to go before something bad happened. An happy Danhausen cursed Mysterio before disappearing.
