Sami Zayn is the new WWE United States Champion.
Zayn defeated Carmelo Hayes on Friday’s 3/27 WWE SmackDown, to win the title for a second time.
Below is an excerpt from Alex Kahrs’s WWE SmackDown recap of how the title change went down.
...the challenger counters into a sunset powerbomb for a two count! Melo has a chance to bounce back as he lands a thrust kick on Zayn, only to be sent to the turnbuckle with an exploder. Sami charges at him for a Helluva Kick, but the champ catches him with a First 48 and the cover…which gets a two count before Zayn gets the shoulder up!
He intercepts the champ at the corner, countering Nothing But Net into a Blue Thunder Bomb for a nearfall. Trick Williams grabs the US Title at ringside, basically giving it to Sami to see what happens. Zayn refuses to use it, confronting Williams on the apron before Hayes grabs him from behind…only to be laid out with an errant right hand by Trick!
Zayn is slightly reluctant but takes the opening all the same, landing a Helluva Kick to pin Hayes for the win!
